Yeah, do a lot of dairy cows go regularly unmilked? Is that like a big problem in the industry?

Oh vegans, the people that think that shearing wool harms sheep. Yes, let's listen to them condemn milk and eggs. I'm certain their points are valid. E: what is my problem, this is a funny thread.

Huh. What do you know?Wheat Loaf posted:I was in Manchester a few months ago and saw one of those bus stop adverts which insinuated that milking a cow is essentially equivalent to rape; now, I don't drink milk, but I do like cheese, so I'm not sure how many degrees of guilt that gets me. The issue isn't getting the milk out of the cow, it's getting the milk in there in the first place. Like all other mammals, cows don't lactate unless they're having babies. So you need to keep the cows giving birth all the time. So that means a lot of spare cow babies to dispose of. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dairy_cattle#Management Hyperlynx has a new favorite as of 01:54 on Dec 27, 2017 |

Well, playing devil's advocate for a moment, regarding sheep especially, I think that a sensible vegan would argue that the crime began when humans selectively bred sheep and cows to produce so much wool and milk that it becomes a problem for them. In the ideal vegan world, these grotesquely exaggerated animal features wouldn't exist. Yes, not shearing a sheep is bad for it - but that's still a human-inflicted harm. On the other side of the argument:
