Safety Factor posted:I really liked Spaceballs when I was 12, but I never want to revisit it. I first watched it in my early 20s after hearing about it non-stop since I was 10, and it was amazing how my 10-year-old friends had better comic timing for the jokes than the movie itself. Every single loving joke lands a second or so late, and when your movie is built around nothing but jokes, those misfires really add up. It was one of the most unpleasant movie watching experiences I’ve ever had.

Random thought: I miss when comic book movies were so rare and you'd get amazing set designs and costumes because that's the only way they'd get greenlit, now you see a screenshot of Captain America or Batman with their new gear on and go "oh, they cleaned up the suit, that's nice"

Housebound is a ghost movie without any actual ghosts and it's easily one of the best movies in the subgenre. Between that and Shadow of the Vampire I see no reason this wouldn't work for kaiju or zombies or anything else.

Frankly I'm surprised no one's made a post-kaiju movie where you don't really see the monster but you do see society's reaction to the aftermath. If such a movie exists, let me know.

loving hell, I've been putting off Star Wars because I wanted to go see it with my dad and today is the day I was going to see it on IMAX and...completely sold out. Same for tomorrow. I think I'm just going to use my Moviepass and see a normal late night screening tonight. It's weird because I don't care THAT much about Star Wars but I still don't' want it spoiled in case I do end up liking it and the longer I go without seeing it the more poo poo I'm going to get spoiled even while trying to actively ignore it.
