Also if you’re in the Midwest know that you can only drive it in the summer, the salt will murder that thing.

Yeah anywhere in the midwest is going to be a bad time for anything Japanese from the generations that we're legally allowed to import. Japan doesn't use salt on the roads so their undercoating protection is lacking. You could always import something and undercoat it but a Figaro really wouldn't be enjoyable enough for that I don't think. Something like a Jimny would probably be really fun in the winter though, assuming you undercoated it.

1990 Turbo Diesel Daihatsu Rugger, 5 speed 4X4. https://auc.japancardirect.com/aj-IN9aaXzCHsONwC.htm Did not bid as it wasn't a rated auction, as shown by the *** in the header. Since it's USS we won't know for sure if it sells and if it does we won't know for how much If you put your car up for sale in an auction house you can elect to not go with an inspection, so your car will be sold 'as is'. Because it's an auction house they don't work with much (located in Sapporo) they wouldn't allow an interdependent inspector in to look at it (because the person selling this Rugger didn't spring for the inspector level) and there is no way I'm going to blind-bid on anything. No idea what the interior is like, if anything works, what doesn't work, how it runs or idles. Somehow Matt found higher-res pictures that you see here and there is some serious corrosion (or something) going on in the right-rear quarter between the wheel arch and the corner of the bumper.

The gently caress is with that winch tray anyway? Why mount like that rather than getting it properly tucked away? Can only imagine it's for utility use rather than recovery, given how much it buggers the approach angle.

The Tale of The Inspected Pajero: Also Has a Winch This is a 1984 Mitsubishi Pajero, 4 door with far back rear seats giving it 7 seat capacity. Non-turbo diesel, AC, 5 speed manual transmission with all the 4x4 bits all up in its guts. Dark green with sick2nasty orange stripe running around the whole body with 'DIESEL WAGON' on the rear fenders, 'DIESEL' being in Mitsubishi red and 'WAGON' being in the same orange color as the stripe. Brown as hell interior. Inspection sheet posted:https://auc.japancardirect.com/aj-59s03cStGHwY1P.htm -346- diesel, 5MT, AC, one owner, electric sunroof, 7 seater, engine 4D55, dashboard glue, interior dirty scratches, engine slightly oily, wheels scratched and corrosion, studless tires, undercarriage and engine area rust and corrosion, aftermarket steering wheel?, small chip in windshield, other dents and scratches as seen in diagram. Cool! These typically go for anywhere from $1500 to $2500. Not bad at all imho for a cool as frig green diesel 4 door manual transmissioned SUV. So what if the steering wheel has been replaced? And probably the WRONG winch. I ordered an inspection. Actual Person Inspector via Third party Inspection Service posted:https://auc.japancardirect.com/aj-59s03cStGHwY1P.htm - engine starts ok, runs rough/noisy, revs fine, some vibrations, no smoke, 100,400 km oil change sticker, oil dirty, some sludge, radiator fluid ok, oil pain area oily starting to drip, engine mount area and master cylinder area rusty, tires have 70% no cracks, spare ok, summer wheels / tires included do not match winter wheels or spare, no leaks or rust in cargo area, side rails frame floor center rust and bad corrosion (flaking off), underside of hood rusted, seats fading but ok, ceiling liner dirty with some holes, steering wheel worn, dashboard glue, no cigarette smell or burns, AC appears to work but too cold to test, clutch ok but worn, transmission loose, check engine lights ok, electric sunroof operates but rough, windows ok, lights ok Someone is going to buy this thinking it's a 3.5 when it should really be a grade 2. Third party inspections have saved me twice now, once with that blown headgasket Crown Wagon and now this sludgy, leaky and rusty Pajero.

Seat Safety Switch posted:Holy poo poo, that is a smoking deal. That dude must look at a ton of cars to make it worth his while. Exactly, but it isn't just one guy, the way it feels is that there is 'Inspector Groups' like, they deal with a different one each time sort of thing. When talking with Yoshi @ Japan Car Direct he speaks of the inspectors like they are little companies themselves, so he'll go 'Sometimes the inspector will A, sometimes B, just depends'. The inspectors are separate people paid by Japan Car Direct (or whatever import house that utilizes them). Don't forget that these auctions are for all of Japan too, not just for export. These inspectors probably make most of their money from people within Japan looking to buy from auctions. It isn't uncommon at all to see a car then see it a few days later after it sold on a dealer lot somewhere. Or a month later all tarted up. There was this 1984 Delica wagon I posted earlier in the thread KakerMix posted:
It ended up selling for over $8000 at auction. A week or so I found it for sale again. http://www.carsensor.net/usedcar/detail/CU6375537247/index.html?TRCD=200002 4WD FREAK On a dealer lot now with some 'enhancements' for $18,300.

This is also where the independent inspectors shine too, because I got my roof tested so it all works properly. I don't think the Toyota skylights are nearly as complicated as the Delica ones but still, those can be huge $$$ sinks. This LiteAce is missing the turbo diesel part for being the hat trick for one of these, but the skylight and the manual transmission are the other two. EDIT Guess what I found out: This is a picture gallery of an automatic one but mine should be extremely similar http://www.mendelsgarage.com/listings/1991-toyota-townace/#next KakerMix fucked around with this message at 06:34 on Dec 24, 2017 |

I'm the jump seat Exceedingly clean, quite happy with the condition and price I got this one for. The interior especially, outside of the cracked steering column cover that is held on by blue painters tape (???). I've seen that on a few other LiteAces so I assume it's a common failure point.

Buying something from Gary Duncan would be easy, for those of you that don't want to import stuff yourself. The guy's prices are pretty fair considering what other people try to charge and he's got some neat stuff. He also really does like this stuff in the same ways that I do, or at least it seems that way. That 2009 Every is def. not legal in any universe nor even in Canada , the only way I can think is that it's registered as a sort of farm-level car, here in the US we have certain rules for 'mini trucks' down at the state level but otherwise never in a million years is that thing 'street legal'. Cute as heck though. I got something in the mail today: This manual is as pearly as any early 90s Lexus. Plus the maintenance book behind it has 28 maintenance records, one for each year it's existed as far as I can tell. Even included the insurance card. That would make this the third one-owner car I've bought then, given the evidence. Can't say for sure of course because those records don't follow when importing but the 1983 Acty, the Rugger and now the incoming Crown.

Finally received my OEM center wheel caps for the Rugger from Jakarta. Plastidip'd them in black to match the wheels, and so I can easily peel it off if I want the chrome look back. I have a set of tires on the way that should get here in the middle of the month and then I'll probably plastidip (or repaint) the wheels themselves once the new rubber is on. The wheels were originally white but the previous owner did them up in black and I'm wondering if I should put them back as white. White wheels on white body looks pretty good, the replacement tires I have on the way are BF Goodrich KO2s, complete with raised white letters that will absolutely be facing out. I've also been playing with replacement decals because I would like to get the truck repainted in white, and the decals have to come off. It still needs something, the Blizzard variants have some neat upper designs I could steal the shape from if not colors. That 'BLIZZARD 4WD' upper stripe shape done in matching orange or blue depending on what set I'd go with might look pretty good, suppose I'd have to photoshop it up some more to get a feel for it. The Crown Wagon is in Jacksonville, I should have that early next week.
