I'm playing through Persona 3 FES and I've got half a mind to stop based on how little I care for any of the characters or their relationships. My primary context for the series is Persona 4, which I loved. Everything about it. One of my favorite games ever. It's been years since my last Persona 4 playthrough. From a mechanics perspective, there are features that I wish Persona 4 could have kept from P3, but the story and personalities within P3 feel comparatively like a mess. Boring, even convoluted, which I know P4 was too, but I felt like it had an internal logic which much better held things together. I'm now wondering... Before we get to another 20 pages of preferences being skewed as facts and wars, some people prefer different settings and stories. Plenty of people don't like Persona 5 for reasons as well.

I love Persona 3, the cast, plot, s-links, soundtrack and aesthetic, but I also played it when it came out in 2006, before the formula was iterated on several times, after pretty much giving up on JRPGs for a few years. Many people have that experience of going back after playing 4 and not being able to get into it.

The first megaten I played was overclocked so a lot of the PS2 era design decisions in general are kinda rough for me.

It's been such a long time since I played P3 most of my memories are biased and P5 is p rough at certain sections too.

the tone of persona 3 is very different from 4 and the main cast aren't nearly on as good terms as with persona 4, at least not initially. a lot of them actively dislike each other at first and take a while to really become friends. I can see not appreciating that stuff as much as the way 4 handles it for sure also yea mechanically speaking, 3 is really rough compared to 4. p3p gets a lot of qol improvements from 4 that don't exist in the ps2 versions of 3. the s-links it adds are mostly better than vanilla p3 as well if you ignore ken

Is Deep Strange Journey coming out this month or was I mistaken? I could've sworn it was, but I'm checking now and Google just tells me a vague 2018. Not sure where the thought of January came from.

I played p3p and never really saw the console version until years later, holy poo poo the vanilla links are some rear end. Not having a team member, especially one of your first ones, be a support link seems like the dumbest design choice.

Link in P3P if you play as the male MC. I think only the FeMC gets S. Links with the male party members

I'm starting up Persona 3 FES for the first time after having played through Persona 5 and finishing that one last week. It's kind of amusing how the Phantom Thieves kinda just stumbled their way into everything and had to figure everything out as they went, but most of the characters at SEES in the beginning already have some idea of what's going on. Really looking forward to this one, even if the dub is kinda laughable in some places, and it's way dated now. Really glad I gave this series a shot with 5.

Yeah, I have also been playing through Persona 3 FES and have been liking how generally competent the cast is. Spoilers for stuff about a couple months in: Like, they only take until the 2nd playable moon cycle (third cycle of it happening) to realize "oh, every full moon."

Has anybody played the Chronicles Edition of Nocturne? A fan translation apparently just came out. For my second run of Nocturne I had planned to just skip the Labyrinth because I already got that ending. But now I kinda want to do it for Raidou. I just have to not piss off Metatron and leave.
