Hav posted:No. Even if it's personal, it's still a commercial transaction and who knows? Maybe there's enough spare cash to sate Cryteks desire for blood. I wouldn't put it past CIG to believe that they can totes do a LY conversion, hand everything they've done over to Crytek and say "yo this is totally okay we migrated and everything's cool," while they start from scratch. Given the state of the project, it's garbage and any rational perspective would demonstrate that they've accomplished less than nothing anyway. Then we can get some fun times when backers finally run out of cash and by extension Crobbers and lo, jack and poo poo was created on LY meaning they've spent 6 years for absolutely nothing.

Combat Theory posted:Given his absoluteley crusty writing about SQ42 and THE PU instead of SQ42 AND SC, it reads to me like he's just going full damage control mouthpiece on behalf of cig. Sorry beet I'm not buying this guy for one second. He either is deep into the cult approach or he's shilling for cig from my point of view This. One thing people are wont not to do is make a visible retreat after doubling down on a bad decision. Our pal Chuck has signed up to the SS.Croberts and has no intention of jumping ship. He is most definitely on Damage control duty to save the dream that I do believe he knows is in trouble. Personally I think there has been a greasing of palms between he and CIG in one form or another and has a vested interest besides believing in the dream. So do a lot of Goons here but they won't admit it. Every time one of you mentions that "one day it will release as something" or "If they can get past (insert technobabble here) then they may be able to do it" or my personal favorite of "If CIG could get Chris to step down or new management then there will be a chance of a game" it shows that you believe there is a chance for this game to be made. You believe in the dream and are not the cynical bastards you think you are. There is no way this is ever going to come out. It was a failed game years ago and the only thing propping it up was hope in the form of backers desperate dollars and not any advancement of game technology that was sold to everyone. In fact, they went backwards. The only thing that separates Charlie from the spergs we mock and ridicule into a singularity is that he doesn't just write effort posts on Reddit all day. So Charlie, if you are reading this I need you to know that you aren't fooling all of us and you aren't that gooddamned good at what it is you THINK you do. I may not be a hotshit game dev or have anything to do with software at all, but one thing I can go to the mat on is my project management experience and seeing many large scale projects through from cradle to the grave. And based on that alone, there is nothing about CIG that meets even the lowest bar of competency and without that, you get no game.

I can dig out a form response for you, but it follows a quite specific format. A blanket denial will move it with alacrity to the jury trial they request because there is _impasse_. This is a mediation procedure, and I urge you to go read the complaint. It's not that difficult, but Skadden's aren't fishing for a couple of million. This will rise to the tens of millions at least, based on what CiG has been saying. Best thing to do is cop to the lesser - no contest - then fight agreements based on a misunderstanding. This all revolves around the GLA, which we have not seen. You do know one of the Skadden guys deposed Zuckerberg? This is more than a patent troll shakedown.

Beet Wagon posted:This is kind of a result of his digging around the refunds page, I think. When I first started communicating with Charlie he was very protective of Star Citizen - "rabid" is perhaps too strong a word, but only just. Our first emails back and forth were somewhat... combative. His first foray into /refunds was the big $45k fake, remember. Since then he's had to acknowledge that there are indeed some big backers who are pulling out (or trying to) and that everything may not be sunshine and roses in the land of BDSSEs, and I actually think he's done a pretty decent job of reporting that. I know a lot of people want to poo poo on him, and he's clearly still interested and a supporter of the project, but I think what you're seeing is the actions of a man who has just learned something is a little more complicated than he originally thought. well any reporter gets both sides and doesnt just go with what they shovel you. but since this is video games that is all people get - sunshine and rainbows and the nasty poo poo is on youtube. I think Charlie just isnt doing his due diligence and think of him as pond scum just like all other media. right there with politicians, used car salesman and video games salesman. It really is kinda funny that most of the breaking info and news hits youtube and most of media are gunshy especially the video game industry. Now if it is a pile on story which has happened then that shaming is kinda different and there were several last year. Well the media loves to run with those.

Maybe the reason they're taking so long to respond to the suit is because they can't find anyone to represent them? Find any decent IP law specialist and ask them to defend a company that is reliant on donations for funds, those donations are able to be taken back by dissatisfied customers, the company is likely playing fast an loose with 17 separate companies across the globe, is being sued by the firm that carved off half of a billion dollars off Facebook, has had development issues going back years, etc... I mean, any good lawyer is going to look at the company and the situation and either laugh as they hang up the phone or demand a huge amount upfront for the uphill battle they are going to fight and probably lose.

Just found out about a game called Helium Rain. It's single-player, but otherwise sounds like it scratches every single itch the citizens have. The Developer posted:Helium Rain has a focus on three important elements : realistic handling of ships, long travel times, and a dynamic universe. Ships have lots of inertia, they move in three dimensions, can turn independently from their velocity, and don't have a maximum speed. Fleets can take days to reach a destination, with a travel system that is essentially turn-based and requires you to plan ahead when you manage military fleets. And attacking a cargo ship, destroying resources or blockading an area have meaningful consequences on the world's simulated economy Oh, and get this: they're using UE4 for the engine, and some store assets, but everything not licensed is in a public Github repo. They also accept patches from players. The Developer posted:I'd like to thanks the volunteers who send pull requests with every version... Where is your Most Open-est Development Ever now, Citizens? Edit: It costs $15 (but is on sale for $10.50 right now on Steam) mdxi fucked around with this message at 23:39 on Jan 3, 2018 |

kw0134 posted:Only if the talks don't finish within two weeks. Then CIG files a response, which can be a blanket "defendant denies all counts of the complaint," and then the first year associates can fiddle with the court calendar while the big boys hash out a binding settlement. At a convenient point in time, everything gets withdrawn/dismissed and the final settlement gets locked in a folder at Skadden/Ortwin's whisky cabinet and that may well be the end of it. I agree. However, the fact that croberts turned around and did some truly awful things to Crytek, this lawsuit is more personal than it is about money. Crytek know they're going to get money anyway, regardless of how it turns out. So they have every incentive to embarrass croberts as much as possible. I believe they will do just that, while dragging it on. I don't think it will settle. I just don't see it. For it to settle, RSI/CIG would have to hand over enough money to Crytek that they might as well just give them everything and walk away now. Given their burn rate, and the fact that they were low on cash any way, seeing as they raise $30M a year which they then spend - having no product to ship - really, they're hosed. Remember also that Crytek has a history with croberts and co; so it's not like they are going to trust him to make good on any payment arrangement they're likely to default on anyway. Also note that this has been going on for over a year since I first hinted at it; though I never thought that RSI/CIG would be dumb enough to call Crytek's bluff and be sued. They were sued likely because, like all things with those clowns, they thought Crytek was bluffing and/or they couldn't settle on a decent deal, thus forcing the lawsuit anyway. I'm calling it now. RSI/CIG has NO plausible defense against the claims in this lawsuit. And they don't have the upper hand to call the shots on a settlement. They're hosed. Completely. And they deserve it. ----------------
