The Square. Good Time was a close runner-up. 2049 was just aight compared to those two.

My favorite was either Good Time or Dawn of the Felines (technically released in Japan 2016 but afaik was only released internationally this past summer). I also loved phantom thread but I've seen these other two 2+ times and need to rewatch Phantom Thread a bit and have some distance from it before being emphatic in my declaration

Logan Lucky was surprisingly fun. Probably a tie between that and Baby Driver.

Blade runner 2049 was probably the only really good film I saw this year. Baby driver was decent, but not as good as Wright's other films and Ansel Elgort was probably molested by Kevin Spacey

I like Get Out a lot, I think that's probably my favorite. After that: The Big Sick, The Last Jedi, Kedi, Logan Lucky, Blade Runner 2049, Logan, Baby Driver, John Wick 2

Tie between Mother! and Lady Bird runners up: The Killing of the Sacred Deer, Wind River, Bladerunner 2049 and Dunkirk

Call Me By Your Name is without a doubt the best film of this year and most other years too. Mother, A Ghost Story, Blade Runner and In This Corner of the World also get to hang.

I recently saw Blade Runner 2049 and I have to amend my best movie of 2017 to that. Without a doubt probably the best sequel I have ever seen, even better than Empire Strikes Back.

i feel like such a cliche dork but if i'm being honest with myself the movie that did it the most for me is blade runner 2049 top tier for the year at present also includes in no order Brimstone and Glory Meyerowitz Stories The Challenge Good Time John Wick Chapter 2 The Last Jedi

Blade Runner 2049. I went in with low expectations, and it blew me away. It's definitely up there with the original, and probably more palatable to modern audiences. Mother is probably my "Fascinating to analyze and speculate about, but takes some effort to watch" movie of the year.

Nates Helvetica posted:Blade Runner 2049. I went in with low expectations, and it blew me away. I was the same; I absolutely love the original and all 584358934 of its cuts and was horrified when I heard they were doing a sequel. I was like, "How the gently caress do you do a sequel to Blade Runner 30 years later and make it good?" My expectations were lower than they were for Michael Bay or JJ Abrams movies. Was pleasantly blown away with how awesome everything about 2049 was.

1. Good Time 2. The Shape of Water 3. Blade Runner 2049 4. The Florida Project I guess 5. Phantom Thread would most likely be arranged somewhere into here if I'd seen it yet
