What do you guys think of Young Justice? I started watching it again recently, and it seems like a pretty solid, but not spectacular series. Certainly not as good as Justice League or Superman: TAS.

I've never seen Young Justice, but from what I heard it's more similar to the Teen Titans comics while the Teen Titans show (not Go) is more in line with the Young Justice comics. Is what I heard right?

Not really. The Titans show ripped pretty wholesale from the early Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans comics, with stuff like the Terra and Trigon arcs, albeit toned down a bit for kids and with adjustments made to account for the reduced cast and lack of clearance for the adult heroes to appear.

I feel bad for the people getting excited for it though, because there's pretty much no way the new season will live up to the hype that diehard fans have built up

Cartoon Violence posted:Since I'm noting down all these cartoons / anime I might potentially love, I have two more questions: Should I watch Miraculous Ladybug? It's lightweight fun; there are hints that it'll go a bit deeper and darker into the heroes' psyches (Adrien/Cat Noir in particular, especially considering that his mother mysteriously disappeared and his father is secretly the bad guy), but for the most part it's happy to play things out as cartoony farce by having heroine Marinette/Ladybug drop herself into ever more embarrassing situations. Continuity is definitely becoming more of a thing as season 2 progresses, though - it's not fully serialised, yet, but it's starting to feel like the main characters won't be in the same place at the end as they were at the start.

I'm really enjoying TML too. I started watching it as something simple to pass the time while I couldn't sleep, but quickly got invested so binged through it all pretty fast. It's cute and silly, but I care a weird amount about these dorky teenagers and their dumb romance. It's great. Plus like Payndz said, it's getting more serial as it goes on, so I assume it's only going to keep getting better.

Thirding this. It popped up last Christmas on my suggestion feed on Netflix (I have kids) and I was exhausted and looking for mindless fluff to recover from the holiday madness. It is totally that on the surface then it slowly sucks you in to the underlying plot and by the time you get to the origins episodes you're hooked and impatiently waiting for S2, which is already half out in Europe and starts strong and has a lot more plot.

Also for the dude looking for great cartoons - Men In Black the series. I got around to watching the first 3 series last year (heard 4 was bad though) and they were fantastic - really builds on the established canon. Also Vincent D'Nofrio reprises his role - as EVERY BUG THAT APPEARS in the show. They're all him, but with distinct voices, and they're all hilarious. Also the episode with the Arquillians dealing with their opposing race (they are in a conflict with some dudes on a planet across the solar system from them because the other guys are jealous that Arquillia is slightly bigger than theirs) is super well done, it really lays on just how out of his depth the Arquillian is, because he's the viewpoint character for that story.

Finally got around to continuing watching Rocko's Modern Life after taking a break after the Christmas special (the next episode wouldn't load at the time). I like that they used the Cruisin' 2 parter to explore the effects of old age on ones mood, especially in the second half when the Bermuda Triangle hosed with everyone's ages and suddenly Elderly Rocko's snapping at a newly-30 year old who's just sympathising with him because 5 minutes ago he was an arthritic 80 year old so knows how much pain he's in. Also the guy doesn't get annoyed with Rocko for snapping, he gets it. He was there 5 minutes ago. He leaves Rocko with the great line "Getting old can be a hoot, but you don't want it to happen all at once. Better to age gradually into it." referring to the sudden time-fuckery and showing that he's aware of just how much of a shock going from 21 to 81 in 5 minutes must have been. It was surprisingly real after a bunch of common "Lol old people" jokes in the first half. Especially the moment when the turn in the mood happens when Rocko is getting fed up with Heffer's grandpa Ira's mood and starts grumbling to himself about him, and is overheard by another old-timer feeding the ducks at the bow of the ship. The guy gets rather blunt with him, and simply states that maybe after decades of losing memories, bodily control and loved ones, maybe you just aren't as much of a ~ray of sunshine~ as you were 50 years ago. Also the exploration of power corrupting in the episode where Heffer becomes a security guard was a funny Shining homage and had a great "Harsh Rocko" moment right at the end (Rocko goes to bail Heifer out of jail after he freaks out quitting his job because of the solitude messing with his head, but when Heifer asks Rocko to lend him money to fix his dad's car that he wrecked, Rocko opts to let him stay in there for a while). Finally in the episode "Kiss me I'm foreign", in which Filbert marries Rocko to stop him being deported due to a mistake in paperwork made by the government, they remember his relationship with Dr Hutchinson and have little moments during his married life where they awkwardly meet after Fil breaks it off with her and just try to avoid eye contact, until the marriage is annulled after Rocko get's his green card and they get back together. I like that this show explores the consequences of certain subplots. BioEnchanted fucked around with this message at 23:13 on Jan 8, 2018 |

It was rumoured to be down for broadcast last weekend, but nope, and is now due maybe the end of the month, perhaps, maybe, in Germany, possibly. Oh, I also decided to see how well Netflix' suggestions worked and tried watching Seven Deadly Sins. I think an animator just cameoed in the final episode of season 2 of Rocko's Modern Life - after a dream episode where Rocko wishes he was big, he wakes up and does the whole "And you were there" thing, then the final guy in the line is some relatively-realistically drawn human who, when Rocko fails to recognise him, simply replies "You're off-model, Kangaroo Boy."

I've seen at least one storyboarder on Twitter saying that their job is going to end this month, and it doesn't seem like people just get fired from CN shows. Also it did get renewed for a second season last year, so it might be an Uncle Grandpa case where the episodes have been made, they're just ending production.

While we're talking anime, I just wanna throw out there that DEVILMAN crybaby loving slaps hard It's absolutely not a kids show by any stretch of the imagination (seriously do not show it to your children, I'm not kidding here), but it's LGBT-positive as hell, and while the events of the story are pretty depressing the themes are weirdly uplifting if that makes sense? Like it's ultimately a show about how love and empathy are the #1 thing that defines humanity, and while those are our greatest weakness, they're also our greatest strength. Also it just loving rules in general, Masaaki Yuasa is a genius
