Apparently the Cook County Forest Preserves have some cool animals. Don't see elk every day in Chicagoland, much as I wish you did.

This is a very, very good picture. More of us should go for this kind of unusual composition - way in close, obvious shadows from a fence (did you stick your lens against the fence, trying to squeeze the wires to the edges? I've done that, sometimes it works).

Awesome.

Thanks, I pressed the lens right up to the fence to try and minimize it in the frame. I was a bit hesitant to get that close even with the fence just to give them some peace in what is a very unnatural existence for a herd of elk but I also figured it was probably on the low end of annoying to them given what they must go through with the average idiot wandering upon them.

Took the kiddos to the zoo for trick or treat and got a few good ones from areas we usually don't visit.

Kendi the baby Black Rhino. Everyone has a huge hardon for Fiona the baby hippo, but Kendi is both infinitely more important from a conservation perspective, but also much, much cuter.

Love the gibbon!

More from my local park... Unfortunately the coyote in the first shot doesn't look great- possibly ate some rat poison or something. Still can get around but definitely not as pretty or spry as the other ones I've been seeing.

I have no idea how this happened, but I just found an entire 1/2 day of photos from Kenya that I didn't realise I had. It's been driving me nuts because I knew I had shot a few hundred pictures of this mother and child elephant but it's been a few years so I was starting to doubt my memory. Oh well, early Christmas for me!

The local herd has two males (him and another his size) and 6 to 8 females. They come up and eat my chicken's feed. My neighbor has "harvested" one from his hot tub. Finished soaking while it bled out in his back yard.

My parents put out deer food in her front yard. In the winter they can get a half dozen or more deer at one time. No pictures of them but yard deer are cool (also this is the suburbs so no hunting).

I do have a picture of a young gorilla:

Nice! My local doggos put on a good show this morning too. Among the several sightings, this guy hunted his way down a big open hillside towards me. Wish he was a little closer, but i'm psyched he was actually facing me and I didn't totally flub it.

Cool leezard! I like the "lizard eye view" of the top one. STEP OFF, MY THROAT IS BLUE

I had a meeting near Pt. Reyes yesterday, so I took the afternoon to check out the north end. I almost always have gone to the lighthouse end to the south, so the elk refuge was pretty eye opening. These guys were just outside the refuge.
