The whole storyline was just an excuse to get a re-do on that heavily criticized 1st assault on the prison. At least it feels that way.

They did. Mazzara took over after Darabont, then was ousted at the end of 3, and everyone’s ‘favorite’, Gimple took the reigns in season 4.

It seemed the reason Mazzara got shitcanned was some people claimed Kirkman is a big fat idiot that doesn’t understand how TV works and has (or at least then, had) an unreasonable amount of sway behind the scenes. But on the other hand, you get conflicting info like this: ‘This source says production was shut down "several times" because of a lack of material’.

But I remember the ‘stellar’ episode Kirkman wrote; the S3 MSF when the assault team went to rescue Glenn and Maggie. The one prisoner, Oscar (he saved Rick when that other prisoner let all the zombies in) who didn’t do much was suddenly adamant to join the rescue mission. He got shot and killed hoisting Glenn over the fence. In an interview Kirkman fully admitted ‘well, they couldn’t get away without any casualties, so I decided we had to kill Oscar.’

Really, I think S3 was the start of do nothing character steps up, gets killed, everyone mentions how cool they were after the fact. Aside from saving Rick and getting killed, all that character did was get excited at finding a pair of slippers. I’m sure fans and other characters were shaken to the core by that loss.

For a few seasons I thought what Gimple was doing with the show was an improvement. But the last two seasons have narratively gone in circles and i don’t feel like there is any plan now for where the show is going.

I dunno, but I imagine it varies show by show. In the case of TWD, there seem to be a lot of chefs in the kitchen--Kirkman, Gimple, Nicotero, Hurd--all these guys seem to be controlling the direction of the show and stories.

While the 2nd assault was WAY better than the first to get there they still needed the Governor to have a two part character study in which he suddenly flips and turns back into a cartoon villain out of loving nowhere to make it happen

What's worse is he had plenty of reasons to be put in a "We have no where else to go" tragic spin on it, making him kind of the anti-hero by making RICK the one that tells him to gently caress off and starts poo poo but they just had to have him start murdering people who were actively helping him and giving him what he wanted because.. reasons.

I think it was shown the bus took gunfire as it peeled out, but the entire bus of extras dying was ridiculous. Even if a few at the back were killed by gunfire/turned, some of the people at the front would have made it out the door.

But big brouhahas where none of the main cast dies has been going on since they had to abandon Hershel’s farm. Beth’s boyfriend and Otis’s wife were the only two that died, and they did gently caress all that entire season.

I feel like as the show has gone on, there have been larger gun battles but fewer deaths.

The biggest casualties so far (not counting Glenn and Abraham) in the ‘all-out war’ are what? Sasha, what’s-his-name’s boyfriend, and I guess we have to count Carl?

You forgot the extra Simon shot!

Actually really hilarious story, I looked him up on the Walking Dead wiki and that extra has been around for like 3 seasons. However it turns out he was the Hilltop's main blacksmith, which I'm sure the show forgot, so Simon put a bullet in the head of a highly valuable resource instead of expendable angry lady who's entire job it is to start poo poo with the Saviors.

Oh hey guys Rubén Blades (Daniel Salazar from FTWD) just won a Latin Grammy for "Best Album of the Year." A lot of people were expecting it to go to Luis Fonsi/Residente (where Despacito comes from, but the song itself still got a bunch of awards) so that's kind of cool.

That's loving awesome. I didn't even know he sang.

What is it with all of TV's best badasses being awesome singers? They need to find a way to make Selizar sing like they do Bronn over on GoT.

... man I hate dreading Fear going back to poo poo. I really liked that 3rd season so it sucks seeing it go back to hell. If they do a Fear vs WD season like they seem to be planning the Fear cast better off like 80% of the WD cast.

It would be immensely hilarious for either Selizar or Strand to tell Daryl not to bring a crossbow to a machine gun fight. At this point doing something crazy like that is the only way they could get the ratings back.

You know what the writing is like?

If there was a challenge in the writer's room to read the entire run of the Walking Dead comic while binge drinking then write down what they remember one year later as the script. So you get a word salad version of events all taped together wrong.

ED: I was utterly shocked to find "I hope you have your making GBS threads pants on" was comic dialogue, and moreso, that it was actually just kind of a funny joke and not dumb as all gently caress in the comic context.

Yeah this is definitely the weirdest I've ever felt in between season about a show because on one hand I really liked the stride they hit and where they were going. I liked pretty much the whole season from beginning to end, which is more than I can say for the main show at any point after season 1, and the ending had me really excited for the next season. Then they announced they would be going in an entirely new direction with new showrunners and Scott loving Gimple as an executive producer (having more authority over the story than a normal producer would because he's handling the crossover). I don't understand why they did this. I know this all technically happened before S3 aired but there's no way the execs at AMC saw the footage and thought "no this is terrible, fire that guy and bring the Gimple in." Or maybe that's exactly what they did. Because from what I gather between interviews with both Gimple and Erickson, wherever that plotline was going it's been completely binned.

So yeah like part of me is looking forward to it coming back but part of me kind of wants to pretend the series just ends with Nick killing himself and everyone else on the dam. It's like he saw a vision of that "Hey Friendos" letter from Gimple they showed on the TDD after the finale and decided to just mercy kill everyone instead.

The thing that concerns me the most is how much they'll just toss all the character stuff in the trash. You know that episode of South Park where they suggest Family Guy was written by Dolphins randomly picking balls with words on them? I legit think that inspired their approach to writing under Gimple.

I look forward to Rolls Dice
Madison is now... Scared and loyal to any group she's in
Nick is now... A sullen serial killer
Alison is now... A remorseful Hermit
Strand is now... An honest man and religious fanatic
Selizar is now... The pacifist voice of reason

Well for the first couple episodes anyway, then we can roll them bones again and see what new personalities everyone gets!
