Our glorious political masters have, in their wisdom, decided to form an alliance with a rag-tag bunch of freedom fighters right when the Federation has us at a tactical disadvantage. Unsurprisingly, this has resulted in the Feds firing on our vessels...

Given that Stellaris is apparently making GBS threads money for Paradox (see the recent Youtuber stream) I expect the dev diary will just be a picture of Wiz sitting on a throne made of golden skulls.

this owns. the dev diary also REALLY owns and i've been looking forward to titans for a long time (that wasn't in a kinda buggy mod).

Also wiz, a small thing but I like that next to each feature being added was a (Apocalypse Feature) next to it. If in future diaries you have free features mixed with paid I hope you continue that, because other paradox diaries can get confusing as to what's free and what's a paid feature.

"Tiny Trains"

I like everything except the God Ray, it implies there's tech to just make anyone switch to any ethos. Why not a materialist ray? Or a militarist ray? Even the orbital mind control laser is just a drop in the bucket in the slow quest to get pops to switch ethos. Is there going to be some end-game tech that allows for ethos switching on command, or will it only be a spiritualist thing?

The effects of it seem to go beyond just mind control since it destroys all bot pops and leaves behind some kind of spiritualizing after-effect. This suggests to me that we're looking at something close to Space Magic here. What really seems odd to me is that Spiritualists are apparently OK with blowing up a planet but not sterilizing its surface.

According to the stream no, once you shield a planet with the colossus it's stuck like that because to code it otherwise would make it a much bigger job.

Also they confirmed that you can destroy ring worlds, section by section.

Edit: and habitats, although destroying a planet with a habitat in orbit won't destroy the habitat.

I'm kinda hoping that the Titan has more section options in the end product tbh. Also that it has more than three!

Demiurge4

I think the shield should be a peace option when you win a war. With the current mechanics there's no way for a pacifist empire to force an alien empire off their planets and into a single shielded planet.

Or is there? Can pacifist xenophobes cleanse planets?

Nope, just 3 and limited to large weapons and the titan cannon on the front so you need to escort it, apparently.

Also from the stream: new civic lets you start on a size 25 gaia world with the only downside being your species has gaia preference (i.e. 0 habitability for everything else).

ROLL INITIATIVE!!

My current pacifist run clenses the gently caress out of planets.

My current MO is this:

1) Settle worlds at the edge of my (or my vassal's) territory, build them up.
2) Trade them to my slowly-expanding ring of vassal states, several of which are now quite large and are approaching parity with some other nation-states.
3) Keep my fleet size purposely far below my cap to appear weak.
4) Get dragged into wars when someone declares on a vassal, immediately queue up enough ships to exceed my cap.
5) Demand the aggressors cleanse the closest planets to my borders.
6) Go back to #1

Just build way more ships, your energy allows you to build past your fleet capacity. If you have Leviathans, you can even trade the energy to get the minerals to build the ships!

You don't need Leviathans for that! I know the trading outposts are really popular with people here for some reason, but you can trade with regular empires as well, often at a much better exchange rate. Yeah, it's not always reliable and it has downsides, but people keep saying that "trading one resource for another" is a Leviathans-only feature and that's just not true.
