Zyklon B was literally a weapon of war that its inventor tried to market as an insecticide after germany banned chemical weapons. The original gas was just zyklon, while the pesticide is zyklon variant a because of an alarm scent added to make it safe for agricultural use. Zyklon variant b is a version without the warning scent. The nazis didn’t know the full history because they found zyklon a while raiding the facility that invented it after the chemist and all his employees fled, nazis generally being a bunch of illiterate barbarians. The chemist and all his employees fled because they were jewish, the chemist having hired jews exclusively after other employers began discriminating against them.

I know, based on IQ ~90% of people have IQs between 85-115, but what would the actual functional difference between the platonic 85 and 115 that would be more relevant than like jeopardy performance or mental mouth speed? especially especially now that everyone can access more information in 5 seconds than people 30 years ago could access in three decades of study

Difficult to say, because the "neutral" IQ tests are less biased towards language skills, but even more abstract in relation to human intelligence or the capacity to function in society.

The most well known anomaly of IQ is that raw scores were increasing steadily at 3 points a year for a long while and there's a million possible reasons why. It calls into doubt the actual utility of IQ, seeing as how technical mental disability ended up meaning a 30 year age difference.

The inventor never managed to sell it as a pesticide as far as I know. He’s a relatively famous guy in German history, but I’m blanking on his name right now. He came up with a bunch of nasty chemical weapons in the first world war, and pioneered a way to separate nitrogen(?) from the atmosphere for fertilizer production.

That was Fritz Haber, converted German Jew, Imperial German patriot, a lovely dude but not a Nazi.

The Nazis did everything ad-hoc, but they didn't need to discover zyklon B by accident, Germany was a leading chemicals producer before the Nazis and they made poisonous pesticides as well. The decision to use zyklon b to kill concentration camp inmates came from some conversation in the back of a car.

also, the nazis had a military chemical warfare division, and made huge amounts of the nerve gas tabun that they never used for fear of retaliation by the allies.

due to the wisdom of the us army, almost all of that nerve gas was buried in alabama, where it is leeching into the ground water as the shells rust.

Favorite part of "Conspiracy" was when Hans Frank insisted to Reinhard Heydrich that they couldn't liquidate all the Jews in Poland because he needed the slave labor to run wartime industry and Heydrich was like, "Yeah, yeah. We'll keep some around or whatever :jerkbag:"

yeah that comes from stahels book on operation typhoon (disinterested linked it in the milhist thread a year back or so) and it goes into a bunch of detail about how totally convinced the nazis were that will to power is all you need and if you were just strong enough we could totally wipe the commies out before winter, so any request to dig in and prepare for winter fighting is defeatism, bordering on treason

His wife shot herself over his refusal to cease developing new and more horrible chemical weapons during the war, and I don't know that he missed a lot of work over it.
