Well, slight adjustments to scale were made to emphasize the bad framing and incredible shrinking Erin factor.

NOTE TO CIG (and it pains me to point out something this obvious to a company co-run by a Director and an Actress): The whole of whale confidence in this project now rests on your Brother / Brother-in-law.

Chris, your credibility was pissed away in a marathon stretch of slinging bullcrap for dollars for five years.

Sandi, well, I think yours peaked at Sunny’s Diner when a couple of nerd dudes were drooling over the fiction you spun about yourself of the brilliant, beautiful, bodacious, joint masters marine biologist/marketing genius sought by schools around the world for Ph.D studies. (Nobody inside or outside of CIG believes it anymore.)

Erin hasn’t yet peed all his cred away, and backers are counting on him to keep the trains running. If not on time (), they need to believe he’s a leader who can keep it from coming off the tracks. So next time you shoot him, tell the man to Sit Up Straight, and position the camera so his framing looks confident and in command. He literally looks like he’s melting and that isn’t a good luck for the last leader people sort of trust in the Troika.

I’ve been jaded by the fact that SC has been “about to die 100% nobody believes in it anymore!” for like at least 2-3 years.

I have faith that Erin could be fired tomorrow, and CIG goes on for the next 8 months showing videos of dreams, with no patches or anything, and they’d still be fine by December.

Now this is of course barring reality coming in like different law suits. So long as CIG manages to live outside the law and beyond reason and logic, they’ll be fine.

My one huge underestimation in this whole thing has been to believe in people. That eventually they would realize they are being taken and the people they believe in are grossly negligent and not what they appeared to be. That the lies, when uncovered, would allow people to see.

None of that was the case it seems. There’s still an enormous chunk of people who I don’t think will ever stop until CIG’s payment system is shut off.

My one big takeaway from CIG and it’s supporters is to expect the impossible, never think anybody will accept truth, and even while being taken advantage of they will still believe they have the upper hand.

My one big takeaway from CIG and it’s supporters is to expect the impossible, never think anybody will accept truth, and even while being taken advantage of they will still believe they have the upper hand.

I don’t think they’re about to die. I think I’ve been fairly cautious about that because we don’t know, won’t know, can’t know cash positions and even if we did we wouldn’t know whether additional arrangements exist which could extend CIG’s life.

I DO think a lot of the whales have embraced a new narrative though, “Chris is the dreamer of dreams but Erin is the get-poo poo-done guy.” It’s not overly stated often but what this means is that there’s been a rebalancing of trust, with Erin receiving more as Chris retains less. CIG seems aware of this and Erin as the first guest on RTV suggests they’re very much mindful of the need to protect faith in the project. Having Chris speak about 3.0 in any capacity will only be salt in the wounds because he’s the guy who oversold and underdelivered in a huge way with 3.0 and people — even true believers and zealot megawhales — associate 3.0 with Chris’ chronic untrustworthiness issues. (And they’re quick to forget Erin’s not exactly sterling record of reliability, such as claims they’d have 3 big releases last year...)

If Erin is the one they need to be able to trust most, then the optics, the presentation of Erin matters. The project seems to have taken a toll on Erin. I don’t mean that in a mocking way. He looks unhealthy and whatever the causes, it would be reasonable for believers to worry a little. Slouching posture and poor camera framing only magnified the effect and paradoxically conveyed this “the incredible shrinking Erin” imagery which I exaggerated visually to make more obvious.

Consider the contrast with this Erin from 3 years ago. His posture isn’t exactly military grade but he seems far healthier and more crisp. It’s easier to watch as a result and more confidence boosting purely on the optics.

Now, I recognize I’m purely talking about the Propagandistic side of things here. It’s cynical to coach on optics and shallow to judge on superficialities. These things don’t matter to me personally but CIG relies so very heavily on propaganda and need to because it’s the main tool in their tool kit and always has been.

So for these reasons, these contemptibly shallow and manipulative reasons, they might want to get a little more on point when giving Erin screen time. (I’d add more about actually helping steer him in healthier directions for his and his family's sake but, well, I don’t think CIG listens to those.)

It’s definitely interesting that they pipe Twitch streams of live gameplay into Turing’s Folly or whatever they call their coffee shop cafe.

I’ve always wondered why CIG Devs like Matt Sherman have time to pop in and chat up streamers. And I’ve seen it happen often when guys like WTFO are dogging on some new frustration. Yet if a rogue streamer is talking shite about the game and it’s enlarged on a big rear end TV in a central hangout at CIG LA, well, perhaps there’s an explicable urgency. “Must disarm human timebomb before Chris walks through and sees this!” (They do it again here.)

Also interesting as Lando gives his Inside CIG tour that he’s tweedling to multiple meetings about ships. And he interrupts a Dev working on a ship.

Yeesh, it’s like he stumbled on a weed deal underway. Not exactly a warm welcome guys. Where’s the famous CIG LA workplace camaraderie? Take some lessons from Justin Chambers — that guy knows how to chill friendly.

I am glad they included this walkabout, though. It has a quality we see very, very little of in CIG’s output these days; verisimilitude. That doesn’t necessarily mean authenticity; it’s the appearance of it. But inauthenticity is the defining feature of so very much of CIG LA’s content, and indeed, when I think of Lando now, I largely think of him framed in medium shots glibly delivering painfully contrived sales pitches and monologues right into a camera.

“The Wonderful World of Star Citizen”, “Citizens of the Stars”, the Santa Claus ship sales pitch in the year end stream. The fakery of it all is front and center. CIG LA formerly employed Community Members with much higher levels of Personal Authenticity — Chelsea, James, Jen, Will, Thomas, and others all felt more real, more earnest. They came across like people not propagandists.

So it’s the little moments in that “Inside CIG” clip that actually feel like real moments that are the most interesting. Lando walking up to Sandi and genuinely catching her off guard. She’s not mad, not happy, just obviously surprised and reacting so quickly to Lando not camera that it feels real. And Sandi doesn’t usually come across that way these days because she’s more mindful of cameras than most ands dons her Sandi! persona with lightning speed.

Lando walking up to Forrest and that other guy and Forrest doing the same, though with what struck me as thinly-veiled hostility. That fake smile he dons at the end feels intended to telegraph his annoyance. Justin Chambers comes across as just as earnest and friendly by default as he was as recurring cast member on RTV, and that’s a good moment made better by its contrast with the Forrest Fire one.

None of these little gets were substantive but they offered the briefest glimpses at the CIG LA that exists beneath the layers and layers of veneer. We know it usually as a Packaged Goods business, and those Goods are Fakery — Advertising, Ship Porn, Company Propaganda. Any little unguarded moments are like seeing the real code rather than the GUI so they the best stuff in my book.

Hold on. I thought that all items you pay for, even after destruction, respawn with you later. That not the case? loving lol.

Late, but all the items you attach to your ship or to your commando, via the magic of cryengine, are actually attached to their model. So they are removed from your game inventory and stuck to your rear end (in the case of fancy grenades) and so on.

When the game inevitably crashes, or you switch weapons, or you put on a helmet, or you cross some doors, or basically anything, your model tends to gently caress up in unexpected ways, which sometimes means that part of your rear end (and the fancy grenades attached) disappear into a pocket dimension.

Now your items are gone from both the ingame inventory and the model and, since nothing is faked in this game, that means they are gone for good. You can't expect them to materialize some replacements from thin air, no, those items need materials, labor, and time to be produced. (In reality, the dumbasses at CIG have no way to figure out what you lost, since lots of the stuff required for doing so is handled client side).

It’s the same reason at my place we have big rear end TVs on the walls with AWS monitoring and instance health and alerts: if there’s a problem everybody can be the first to notice it before a client and we can fix it.

These streamers are just that. If they get out of line somebody is going to log in to them and fix them.
