I'm talking about iterating on mechanics, not story sequel-wise. Even Spirit Tracks was a significant departure from Phantom Hourglass and had mostly changed mechanics. Literally every Zelda is explicitly tied to another in story.

I ran straight to Hyrule Castle. I wanted to see how far I could get. I made it to the final boss room, laughed at how unequipped I was for the fight and went and explored for a good 50 hours
