I haven't played infinity since right when version 2(?) came out, but found a bunch of old minis at my parents place. I think it's the old Haqq starter, so once I dig through this box this weekend I'll be looking to paint them up and maybe dip my toe back in.

once I figure out what I have I'll be back in here looking to figure out what I'll need to fill it out.

Not a huge fan of 400pts tbh. On a 4x4' table, 300 pts is already a deadly game. Could be interesting to try it on a 5x4' or 6x4' but 300 is the perfect size, in my book. You can fit in serious elite badasses or go up toward 20 models, but not both.

400 pt on 6x4 works well, almost feels too sparse. It's good though if you play as 2 200pt players per team, each with a 3x4 section to start in.

How much team work is there? Genuinely curious, I've played a tiny amount of team 40k games and they were just bloodbaths with no concern for the teammate, really.

Quite a lot. We hadn't built our lists together, but we could cover each other's weaknesses reasonably well. The mission was also aimed at working together with our objectives being different to the other team's.

Without missions it wouldn't really mean much, I think you'd find quite a lot of teamwork with its missions though. Particularly if you lost built together.

It was good fun, and I highly recommend giving it a shot.

Wood glue sounds fine, could hammer in some tiny nails if you can't be bothered to wait for it to go off. Or this stuff works immediately.

That does sound rad, I've gotta get more into the FLGS side of things. Playing with mates infrequently isn't really doing it for me.

The team event was a great narrative invite event held at the host's joint a year or two back - each faction had two players with two 300 and a 200 list and a spec op. As the day went on there were updates between each battle about the state of affairs, and the spec ops got access to different tech (depending on win or loss and where the team attacked).

First round was 1 on 1 with pretty simple asymmetric objectives.

The second round had a media presence which was represented by being able to dob the other side in for using concillium banned weapons using show of force.

The last round was the team game, with the losing faction's 2 players needing to evacuate while under attack from one of the winning factions. They had to secure some docs then run over the board to a drop ship using one of the spec ops to fly it, then survive any last minute barrage from the attackers. It was loving awesome.

I doubt a flgs would host such a thing, sadly, as it was a huge amount of work. It also relied on players who knew each other and weren't going to be dicks.

I am intending to do something similar this year, though - use the campaign rules someone posted last year for 4-6 rounds, but human sphere only. Then have the last round at my place as a 2-game day with a bunch of combined players showing up as an invasion force, and the campaign players having to escape. If this kinda thing sounds fun, you gotta do it yourself though!

Wow, that would be cool to take part in for sure.

And I more meant that I just play with my small group of mates, haven't branched out into the local scene, which seems friendly from the local facebook groups.

Soooo, I have impulse-bought a USAriadna starter from my LGS (just a small one)*. I already downloaded the free rulebooks and I know about Infinity Army, but does anyone have some advice for how to actually build a starter list for dummies? I'm leaning toward grabbing a 6th Airborne with Molotok & Spec Ops Grunt since they're discounted at my LGS, but honestly that's more for liking the look of the minis than some grand design.

Also, what's the stance on proxying miniatures? There's still one or two choices in the list that don't have models (Wardrivers seems the obvious one), plus I'm a bit put off by some of the more cheesecakey stuff (looking at you, Foxtrot Rangers Sniper!). Is it allowed? Just CB minis only? I mean obviously it's OK for friendly games, but I'm wondering if it might be a problem later down the line.

*I must admit, I was tempted by Red Veil since I also like the look of both Yu Jing & Haqqislam, but that was a bit too big of an investment for an impulse buy.

Proxies are fine. In official games they have to be CB minis but if you're using stuff that's close in friendly games it should be fine as long as you make it clear what your models represent.

Flipswitch
Mar 30, 2010

Official rules are they need to be mostly CB products/parts. But honestly, clear it with your local TO and you should be fine!

Regarding lists,

Generally speaking you'll want an absolute bare minimum of 8 orders at any stage of the game, you have 1 SWC to spend per 50pts and try to keep at least 7 of those 8 orders Regular. Other than that mate just try throwing stuff at the wall and see what sticks. Lists are SUPER mutable in Infinity which is one of its strengths.

:saddowns:

Because of the difficulty in painting my first Su Jian cat form when it was on it's base I decided to try doing my second one before basing it. Problem of course was that I needed to it stay upright after priming it. My plan was to hold it by it's foot tab with pliers to prime it and then zip tie the handles together to keep hold of it while it dried.

Step 1 worked fine. Implementing step 2 resulted in it falling 4 feet onto a hardwood floor and returning to it's component pieces(except one leg).. May not have been too bad except the floor was covered in animal hair that is now adhered to the model via the primer :(.

The pawsting business is tough work.
I like the Kuang Shi uniforms, but the posing definitely leaves something to be desired. The chain rifle lady looks like she's waving to a friend she saw while she's out jogging.

Bit and Kiss have something off about their paint job. Can't quite put my finger on it, though. I'm also wondering how much of a pain it's going to be to clip her weird heels off the tab.

It looks weirdly undefined, I think it's the lack of edge highlights for contrast, where as Kiss! has tons of them.

Eh, Kuang Shi may not be the most exciting models in the world but I’m pretty happy with them. Definitely will need to buy some if purchasing more Imperial Service. I don’t need the super-disposable guys to be ultimate badasses, I’m fine with them having sensible poses, sharp details and proper scale. I admit this release may only be 2 out of 3! As usual I find the male infinity models in the box are better proportioned, cooler looking and have more sensible poses than the female ones. Not to flog a dead horse, but man this game has gender dysmorphia.
