Amber's point in that postis that culture is downstream from politics and that you cannot affect change in culture without changing the system that creates it first, and she's right, and the guy who tweeted that out saying she thinks the opposite is an idiot

Generally sexuality an idpol is fully compatible with the center right to the far left, so making it THE central tenet of leftism is peculiar to me.

I'd rather talk about medicare for all rather than sexual etiquette an celebrity.

She didn't, I was just speaking to the subject itself, it is basically the central discourse at this point, an I have trouble imagining how a binary argument about a comedian an consent (along with sexual corruption of an industry) will improve anyone's material conditions.

I haven't listened to a Chapo ep in a while, but I'm gonna be all over this one. The Post seems like it was created in a Hollywood laboratory to be as Oscar-friendly as possible, and because of that I'm not confident that Shape of Water or Three Billboards are going to be the hands-down favorites. Nothing appeals to the voters more than a blatant reacharound.

Side note: Meryl Streep is a great actress but good Lord, please have her be in movies that aren't blatant Oscar bait. A middling film (or, even better, a huge piece of poo poo) would be better just by her presence.

Are the Chapo people even aware of the War Nerd of the Exile crew in general? They seem to have very similar leanings, but I've never seen them reference each other.

the Dry Boys all follow War Nerd on twitter. and Taibbi was a guest on an early Chapo ep.

Given that Will Menaker follows more or less every big face from Exiled and Gary Beecher himself is followed by nearly everyone from the Chapo crew (And Felix was one of the first folk to support Beecher's patreon and quoted him on a guest podcast he did a good while back on the Bill Humphrey Podcast, if I recall recorrectly), I'm going to guess they're aware.

And it looks like the Virgil vs Matt gaming debate is going to be posted on No-Cartidge's website afterwards, so keep an eye on that.

It's gonna be The Post purely because nothing pisses wealthy do-nothings off more than Trump being rude to the nerds going 'nyah excuse me sir but your urine has no proven cancer curative properties this was a lie you did a lie'. They can't fathom a world where that is met with anything but abject supplication so a big fat retarded fascist going 'nah you're wrong and probably a little queer too my piss cures cancer' broke them.

im amazed at people failing to read that post by amber

shes saying this 'men do better' poo poo is going to do nothing as long as power in politics is held by men who don't want to do better. a shift in culture needs a shift in power in order to work, everything else is just navel gazing. you can't ask people to change and expect it to happen, you have to leave them no choice.

edit: of course the guy is some huffy, passive aggressive fat dude with lovely facial hair and a fitted cap. some ace of cakes motherfucker

and in the replies to that dumbass's tweets they're talking about how 'heh its funny that all amber says she cares about is power cause thats all she does in her career' and its like bro do you not understand how fuckin anything in the world works?

like i applaud the bravery of the people coming forward in the #metoo thing, but any consequences that come from it, right now, are based on appealing to the better natures of the people in power. some people have lost gigs because of it, but that's because it would be bad optics to keep them on, and that's within the (at least performatively) left leaning confines of hollywood. are spacey or weinstein going to fuckin jail over this stuff, like they should? are they facing any real consequences, or do they just have to hide away for a while?

these twitter dickheads think they're going to make headway by appealing to the powers that be, or the better natures of poo poo eating rapists. they aren't. all this poo poo is going to keep happening until more women and good people become the powers that be, and have the power to grind these fucks into the dirt.

"Men, do better" is a bullshit euphemism too. "Do better" is what you say to a child who isn't getting good enough grades in school, not to a grown man who used his clout to molest and coerce women.

Good point. Ughhhhhhhh.

Also, you heard it here first: not a single black actor or actress will be nominated for any of the acting categories. That's what happened the year after "12 Years a Slave" swept the Oscars, and history will repeat itself. It's almost like setting your sights on a vanity awards show and not the culture of an entire industry solves nothing. :thunk:
