"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

there should be a prestige tv series where each season is a different apocalyptic cult. The Paramount Network is already doing Waco, they should move on to Heaven's Gate, Aum Shinrikyo and Jonestown after that. (then again i think you could do an amazing series over the course of a few seasons about Jim Jones and Jonestown, that story is totally nuts)

The reason I am still talking to my friend is because Mandy is tomorrow. Today I'm missing 3 shorts programs and a movie called Pity which is written by the guy who wrote The Lobster and Sacred Deer (and also this movie called L that I saw a few years back and really liked). The way my schedule is I might actually manage to catch two of the things I missed but we'll see.

the most amazing thing i learned during the period of last year where I read multiple books about Jones and Jonestown is that had he not gone batshit insane, he'd probably be remembered fondly as an important figure in church integration. You don't learn the racial aspect of the story when you just hear the most shocking headlines (909 people dead because of poisoned Flavor-Aid), but the only way Jones was able to build as large a group of followers as he did was because he emphasized equality and did work to integrate Indianapolis businesses before he headed west.

I'm honestly surprised that some lovely right-wing website hasn't tried to retell the story of Jim Jones as a fable about a liberal who claims to be all about diversity but in reality is a serial murderer/crazed cult leader.

So it looks like someone had some kind of access to my Facebook account and decided to... make a page with it? Like I was scrolling through my wall and kept seeing it mentioning this page called "Best Clam Chowder" and then I went on my PC and realized that it was a page that got created 10 hours ago, on my account. It added a page photo, a cover photo, and made a post.

I mean I'm sure if they had that kinda access they did something else, but... not noticeably? No posts on any pictures/walls/whatever, no deleted pictures... I logged myself out of everything and made sure the two-factor was set up correctly this time, but I'm just really weirded out by the whole thing.

There's a restaurant here in town that boasts as loud as it can about its "World Famous Clam Chowder - As Seen on the Food Network."

The show was "The Best Of," the restaurant was featured for four minutes, and the chowder was seen in two B-roll shots and never actually mentioned. The featured dish was their coconut shrimp, which comes pre-made and frozen from Sysco.

Not on shared Wifi. I think that because the person apparently logged in from NYC, it didn't send an alert because I didn't have the priority setting high, and that's close enough to me that it assumed I was taking a trip to NYC or something.

Paradise Lost is another really good one, it's much more about the victims and stories from survivors, written by some of the people who helped create The Laramie Project.

Oh man Observe and Report. I showed it to my girlfriend and she was utterly repulsed by it. Particularly the date scene.

I gotta admit that the ending is a bit wierd, I wonder if something darker would have been more appropriate for that character.

But I still think the sequence where they get high is hilarious. Things get out of control fast. Plus Ray Liotta rules in it.

Unrelated, I am reading an anthology of "post-cyberpunk" short stories and one of them had a passing reference to President Winfrey. This is both hilarious and terrifying.
