Seriously, 3rd is easily the best or second best localized Trails game and if you have a chance to play it before playing Cold Steel, you should do it.

I think a lot of it is the camera is too zoomed in and it's extremely easy to be getting hit and not know what exactly is hitting you.

3rd is a really easy pill to swallow. It's a really linear, focused game that's completely about dungeoning while advancing the story in ways that set up every game that comes after. It's a really, really good game.

I forget about FC specifically, but the "endings" to these games (i.e., the stuff after the final boss) are long as hell. Just make sure you budget the time for that so you're not up at 2 AM going wtfwtfwtf and then slamming the buy button on Steam.

Called it.

To simulate the proper TiTS experience, wait a year+ to play the second chapter!

What a drat good game. Some really solid writing, and the attention to detail brought this game was fun adventure to genuine masterpiece. The combat was so-so, the missables were among the dumbest I've ever seen (I hate you Carnelia) but damnit, this game is good.

...I know, preaching to the choir.

Anyways, what the gently caress was that cliffhanger, I'm installing SC right now, and the reason I have 70+ hours in this game is because I already played half of it years ago and then stopped. So drat you all, I did my waiting, I can start SC right now. :P

Now, actual spoilers in here: I knew that historian fellow was suspicious but also jesus what a sadist. I want to both hug Joshua and find him and beat him up for being such a moron. Remember what Estelle said? You can't erase those five years, ya dummy! She loves you and will find you!

...Also I'm still not completely happy with the "it's not technically incest" romance, but hell, they're a good couple so I'll forgive the game for letting them be adorable. ... Just as long as SC turns out well, of course!

Also kudos to the writers, I have some vague ideas about what to expect in SC but nothing concrete. I'm just not sure where it's gonna go, outside of Estelle finding Joshua at some point. And me finding out what Hamel is.

In conclusion: many thanks to my friend Kat (not on SA) for buying this game for me years ago, and many thanks to the Doom Hammer (via gift train) for getting me SC. It's all your fault I'm stuck in this now. :D

I trust in Estelle!

Also, some practical questions now -

1. Does SC have a cliffhanger? As I understand it, FC/SC are a complete story and 3C is essentially an epilogue chapter/side story?

2. Does 3C have a cliffhanger? How well does it tie things up?

3. ...Would it make sense to play SC, stop for a while so I can pick up Tokyo Xanadu and play that, then go back to 3C?

Either way I'm putting off Cold Steel until it's finished, because I am really, really bad at waiting. :P

It is Pretty Weird how so many games push for that, but this is the one time it actually manages to work fairly well.

Neither SC nor The 3rd have cliffhanger endings. You're right about SC concluding the story that starts in FC, and The 3rd taking all of that & building on it for future games.

Personally I'd go straight to 3rd after SC, unless you're just completely TitS'd out by then. I think it's the best of the trilogy though.

SC and 3rd have real endings, and the hooks for the continued overall series aren’t crazy.

Falcon has a thing where they sometimes design games where the craziest thing in the universe happens in the middle. Then the game is 90 hours too long so they cut it in half, and the crazy thing becomes an insane cliffhanger instead.

SC ties everything up very nicely. 3rd is a Liberlian epilogue, but it's also a Crossbellan and Erebonian prologue and ties and even nicer bow on the Liberlian story. It's really good.

No cliffhanger, just the best ending of the five localized games.

3. ...Would it make sense to play SC, stop for a while so I can pick up Tokyo Xanadu and play that, then go back to 3C?
So, the rest of us had to wait two years between SC and 3rd and got both Cold Steel games in that timeframe.

Don't do that. Play 3rd right after SC.

Noted, we'll see what my finances and interest levels in tits say about 3rd.

And all I know about Cold Steel is that it has high schoolers in it, so, uh. I'm not really intending on touching it until it's finished / if there's a chance I can play Zero and Ao beforehand or something. Either way they're pretty far off for me.
