Man, the switch from JLI to Justice League America SUCKS, it's like switching mid-episode from Seinfeld to a C-tier episode of CSI for no real reason. It was great before that, but all the melodrama and dark angst really lost me. Fire's Human Torch form is cool though.

I bet these suits are just for the miniseries.

I would assume so, although Flash looks decent with the black. Most of Team Wisdom look pretty good actually, though Cyborg looks very Iron Man. Sinestro looks decent too.

Like how they based Team Entropy's colours on Batman's so they wouldn't have to give him a different outfit. That's marketing.

Oh boy.

And speaking of, while previous issues of DC were entertaining enough, issue 3 kind of drove off a cliff.

Comedian's return is stupid and contrived even by comic book standards, the story still makes zero sense within the context of what we know of the current DCU, Batman's behavior doesn't mesh well either with what we saw during the Button, the new Rorschach's identity is underwhelming and makes it feel like it was just put because is Rorschach. I don't know, everything just feels poorly handled and the news of the book going bi-monthly killed a lot of my interest in the series

Mime continues to be the best part of the book though.

in the intervening time the world has definitely become more watchmen-like. i'm willing to suspend judgment regarding how the world is and how people act until we know more about what's going on. i agree with you on the comedian's return though, that is by far the thing i dislike most about this. paul frank continues to kill it on art.

on another topic, another solid issue of wild storm, albeit one that's mostly setup. i'd guess poo poo's going to hit the fan and there'll be open io/skywatch conflict within a few issues. i'm keen to see more on the relationships between zealot and the others. what we saw here seemed to hint at the zealot/cash romantic attachment, and we know she trained cash in hand-to-hand much as in wildcasts. i wasn't sure whether they'd do the romantic history thing because it seems like the kherubim might have some kind of human guise put on, given how loving weird their skeletons look.

Boo to Priest leaving JL. I was liking the more political direction he was taking it from the usual big stakes storyline and while I have been enjoying metal I hate Williamson and have found Tynion mediocre in everything other that Constantine the Hellblazer so I cant see Snyder’s new thing being as interesting.

Team Superman and Team Wonder Woman look great.

Team Batman seems godawful.

Team Flash seems like a bunch of editorial mandates stuck together and...Ryan Choi.

Wow. He did some fantastic Sam & Twitch stuff, but that was eons ago. Could be really good, at least the comic might be about loving detective work instead of bitching about Batman, stupid time travelers and a poorly conceived military outfit.

Nothing explicit, but considering this is what he was saying when he took over the book:

Priest posted:

I am really excited and very intimidated by the opportunity to step onto DC's largest stage—the Festival of Big Gun Characters Priest Has Never Before Been Invited To Write. It is my goal to mine a bit of new ore from this 50+ year old franchise by taking the tack Geoff Johns and I developed for Deathstroke: a ‘real world’ approach and exploring the characters’ humanity introspectively.

It is my intent to bring that same sensibility to Justice League, taking a hard “what if these characters actually existed in the real world?” look and working in an area of the series premise that is less frequently tapped.

My goal is to treat the Justice League more like a workplace drama. Although we will, of course, still have world threats, nasty villains (including Deathstroke!), and alien armadas, the League's greater challenge will be to define their place in this new and increasingly cynical age.
That doesn't really line up much with the Super Duper Multiversal Threat From the Dank Multiverse Forcing Everyone To Put On Glowing Costumes and Break Into Wacky Groups model described in this NO JUSTICE announcement, also Snyder already has his group of writers on hand to write the spin-offs. Snyder is talking about how 'for now' people should focus on the great work Priest and Orlando are doing on the books. Orlando seems to be confirming that he's done with JLA on Twitter. Also Priest was at the last Marvel creative retreat apparently? None of this points to Priest wanting to play 3rd/4th banana in Snyder's Metalcore JL.

Bendis has also written some relatively street level detective-work-adjacent books at Marvel, actually.

Yeah those teams obviously aren't permanent.

I do wonder why the higher ups and Snyder dislike the Titans so much so as not to include any of them in back to back events. I mean I know the book isn't the best but neither is Suicide Squad, JL, nor JLA.

I don't know, as she becomes less a straight villain she fits more in groups like this, especially with DC not really having fence-straddlers. Plus Team Wisdom seems to be gathering geniuses or specialists in certain fields, and she would count as the psychologist (psychiatrist?), with the added durability of being able to survive this sort of exploration and not being the more straight villainous psychologist type, like Hugo Strange.

I'm a great admirer of psychiatry, but I feel like that's gotta be one of the least useful abilities to have in a superheroic field team out to study some sort of ineffable cosmic threat.

I don't even know what Harley's supposed to bring to a battle. Is she some sort of martial arts expert now? Is real handy with a big hammer or a baseball bat?

Just off the top of my head I feel like Killer Frost would be a much better addition to that team. She's super powerful, good with science, got history with Ryan Choi, and would have TV-verse synergy with Barry Allen. I guess Harley's there to just...keep everyone on that team from being gigantic sticks-in-the-mud (which, to be fair, is a valid danger with that lineup).

Harley Quinn was (probably still is) slightly enhanced due to chemicals and a boost from Poison Ivy. She has above-average strength/endurance/etc and a resistance to poisons and such. I don't know how much of that is still canon but at least some of it probably is to explain why she is holding her own despite being Harley Quinn.

Plus, Joker's been the culprit behind at least two universe-altering events, so having Harley around to deal with / advise about him is good insurance.

I literally can't believe they had the Comedian get resurrected so he could quip and gurn and fight Ozymandias. This is bottom grade garbage.

Also, it was kind of a big deal in Watchmen that the only person in the world with actual superpowers was Dr. Manhattan. Why does the Mime, a random petty criminal, have powers? Did Geoff Johns read Watchmen?
