I noticed differences in every other format (hacked XBox 1, no matter how hard I tried with filter and screen settings). Every other solution always looked off. it's indistinguishable on the wii. unrelated but it still blows my mind that hackers figured out how to get a USB hard drive working in gamecube mode on the Wii and WiiU. the system literally turns off the USB ports when entering gamecube mode. hackers were saying for YEARS that a gamecube hard drive would never be possible. if you really wanna see some incredible ~authentic~ NES and SNES, mod an N3DS XL and put on an NES emulator that lets you use "pixel perfect" mode (for some reason the VC releases do not have this option). the SNES VC does have the option though, so you can play those, or use an SNES emulator (they run at 60 FPS even with super mario RPG by the way). the N3ds xl having a large top screen with a resolution that is literally perfect for 240p material is something like I have never seen. everything looks as good as if you were playing in RGB on a Sony PVM, except with zero scanlines and no filters. I really can't explain in words how good it looks. you know how good SNES games look when you see them like this?  so imagine that, except on a nice large screen. NES/SNES isn't perfect even in 1:1 pixel mode, the 3DS LCD pixels are perfectly square whereas authentic NES/SNES pixels on CRT are slightly stretched and you can't properly replicate the actual shape of the pixels via emulation without resolutions above 720p

also the only filter I've ever liked ever was the one they used in Sonic Mania. it's called a "CRT filter" but it doesn't look like any CRT filter I have ever seen. it kinda looks like it's scanlines in both directions, so it kind of looks like what it would look like if you played on one of those huge LED billboards. apparently someone figured out the tech behind the filter and "ported" it but I have no idea what that means or how to use it in an emulator https://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=37175 is the link for any goons interested.
