They literally started out because Larry was mad he didn't get nominated for a Hugo for writing mediocre gun-porn - he started out laughing and saying "haha wouldn't it be funny" and ended up working with literal open white supremacists to get himself the award he felt entitled to.

There's nowhere near as little overlap. That's just the remaining Sad Puppies trying to pretend they're just friends with Beale, and haha isn't he funny but totally disconnected from them.

Good article - interesting to see how Kickstarter moneys work and approx how much actually money (not a lot) he'd be taking home if he actually honoured all the pledges and produced the comic. I had a look at the freestartr pages, and one of the things that stood out was Captain EU talking about health insurance and dental to the new recruit. It's just not a pressing concern to EU citizens the way it is to Americans. (Yes, I know I'm missing the point about what actually makes the comic objectionable)

That doesn't sound right. You could set it up so that you're paying corporation rather than personal tax, then do all the usual nonsense to turn it into not - profit, but I can't see how they'd be intrinsically tax free?

Maybe if they're (the donations) classed as gifts rather than payment for goods and services?

At least one bundle site has sliders where you can determine where your money goes - how much to creators, charity, and a 'tip' to the site. I don't know if this is that one or not. You can set it to $0 to the creators.

None of the people involved, thus far, are Nazis, and "An Echo, Resounding" is pretty much the Red Tide guy's answer to all the late game stuff that people begrudgingly praise ACKS for.

The Nightmares Underneath is available from DTRPG in an free, art-less form, and is by Johnstone Metzger who is otherwise known for a bunch of DungeonWorld stuff.

I would characterize a lot of the authors there as the OSR types who mostly are A) accustomed to AD&D and B) just want a framework to hang their setting material from and C) aren't paralyzed by deep-seated emotional problems that drive them to hate other RPGs/women/SJWs/etc. Kevin Crawford is definitely in that camp though he's much more willing to experiment and try to develop systems to bring about the feel he wants and has done mostly good stuff.

Drivethru RPG has a new charity bundle for Stacy Dellorfano, the founder of ConTessa, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer:

Help Stacy Kick Cancer's rear end posted:

Cancer sucks. It really does. Let me tell you the story of how all this happened...

Our family has had a hell of a year. We lost a family member to cancer, a cat to old age, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I found a lump in the early spring, went to my doctor who said they felt like cysts, not cancer, had a mammogram, came back for a diagnostic mammogram and a breast ultrasound, and then got the really really really bad news that what they saw didn’t look good.

That was right before Gen Con, where I was set not only to host the ENnies (a great honor) but to also take ConTessa to a whole new level with three times the amount of events and our own space in the convention. The biopsy happened days before we flew to Indianapolis, but I wouldn’t get the diagnosis until after we landed back home again by my request.

I had a wonderful time at Gen Con. I got to do many things, had many emotional conversations, learned I have a really killer group of volunteers to support us, and I just did my best to live Gen Con 50 to the fullest. I’ve been for the past four years in a row, and this was solidly the most fantastic Gen Con I’ve ever gone to...

...but then reality crash landed around us at the John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana shortly after landing. My doctor stayed late at her office so she could get us the information where we could both get it at the same time (my husband is a teacher and started work the next day). Not only was there a tumor, it was pretty sizable, and has metastasized to the nearest lymph nodes under my left arm.

Now, I have insurance through my husband. Most of my expenses are going to be taken care of, at least the big ones... but cancer isn’t cheap. All of the labs, tests, copays, and the unpaid time my husband has to take off to get me to appointments and help out pile up and pile up quickly.

I’m at the very beginning of my treatment, and already I’ve been hospitalized for a few days for a bout of colitis and severe dehydration after the first chemo infusion.

The plan is to shrink down the tumors using chemo before handling surgery. I’ll be largely out of commission for the next 4-6 months while I undergo recovery. I’ve got some great people helming ConTessa in my absence, and I have a freelance project to work on when I’m feeling well enough to do so, but the ride is going to be expensive and difficult, and I could use all the extra assistance possible. - Stacy Dellorfano

It's $20, and looks like it's mostly 5e and Pathfinder adventures and micro-supplements, but there are a few interesting-looking exceptions, including High Valor (narrative, Trait-based early medieval/dark fantasy) and Gingerbread Kaiju (a very silly board game about giant monsters who happen to be made out of baked goods), an intro adventure for a game called Claustrophobia! (Garden Gnomes reenact The Core), and a couple of Medusa's Guide for Gamer Girls essay collections.

I don't have any experience with any of those, but they look interesting and seem to have decent reviews, and if you're looking for a huge grab bag of 5e/Pathfinder stuff this definitely has that. Also, you can help someone defray the costs of the horribly broken US medical system.

• On January 1st 2018 we will take all of our current, licensed Call of Cthulhu products off sale permanently. They will not be sold by Cubicle 7 after that date.
• Before 1st January we’re reducing the price on almost all of our Call of Cthulhu licensed game titles. These are: World War Cthulhu: Cold War, World War Cthulhu: The Darkest Hour, The Laundry, and Cthulhu Britannica.
• You may still see some of these fine games in your local game store for a month or two, but there will be no restocks available. As they sell out they will not be replenished.
• These games will not be reprinted or republished by Cubicle 7 in their current form using the Call of Cthulhu rules.
• Currently, our plan is to reboot these lines with a new system or systems. It is a little too early in that process to confirm any more details with regard to the potential for backwards compatibility. We're exploring a lot of exciting options right now, and we will keep you posted on our website, newsletter and social media.
• Because some of these titles are newly released, and pre-orders have been only open a short time, we will not be discounting those titles out of respect for our customers who pre-ordered or Kickstarted those titles. A huge thank you to those customers – we really appreciate your support.
We hope you have enjoyed our Call of Cthulhu settings and supplements. We certainly had a great time working on them.

Cassa posted:

So, one thing you need to keep in mind is that the lore behind vampires varies completely from game to game. Are all vampires descended from one cursed Wallachian noble? Is vampirism a prion created in a secret Soviet lab? Are vampires just people given inhuman strength and thirst by a fourth-dimensional meteorite that landed in north Africa a thousand years ago? That's up to your GM to decide, because that's probably one of the big mysteries you're going to discover in play. So you read the Edom Field Manual and Dracula Unredacted all you like, but there's no guarantee that anything in either of them actually applies to your game.

Still, the Edom Field Manual does have some rules for playing as spies that still have actual support from spy organizations (which are tailored towards Edom, obviously) and the Edom Files contains a bunch of standalone adventures set across over a century of European history that you can run on their own. Also there's just ripping cool ideas from Dracula Dossier and putting them in your own game. I'm willing to say you can get $30 of value out of the bundle even if you don't run Dracula's Dossier. (But then, I like NBA so of course I'd say that.)

Agreed, as I've said before I've tried 3 times to start a campaign and bounced right off at the planning stage. Great product just to steal ideas from you have to be a Game Master Wizard to run that poo poo. It's so high quality I'm afraid of letting the material down, if that makes sense.

Mr. Maltose

Even if you strip every bit of Dracula out of the Dossier it's still a good like half a hundred writeups for contacts and nemeses for a modern spy game.

Yeah. I love Dracula, so the unredacted copy of the novel is a big selling point.

But you could pretty easily go Dracula/vampire agnostic technothriller with the resources in the book. That's especially true if you go with the telluric bacteria angle; you could adapt the powers to fit all manner of opponents.
