In hindsight, the portrayal of Muslims in Hyperion is kinda eeeh (in a nutshell: "generally backward but benign except for a few religious extremists"). But it's in a context where most religions are at most fads because Earth got sucked into a black hole a couple centuries before the books. And then the sequels' main villains are the Catholic Church. One of the first examples of them being villains? Rounding up a Muslim village. He also clearly always had a thing about Jews/israel (it's hard to see a difference in his books) and the Holocaust. I can only see it as a seed of bigotry always being there until he started seeing Muslims as the new Nazis. It's me, I'm the big fan horrified by the guy's descent into racism.

Mute definitely looks bigger and a bit cheaper than I imagined when I read the script a few years back. Okay trailer, a shame that word from early test screenings is so mixed. Will be a good come down after I binge watch Altered Carbon.
