Or, just Irwin's corpse that was freshly dug up.

They have Bindi to handle the animals now.

This ad campaign can't be all guys too. They gonna have her, Rebel Wilson, and/or Margot Robbie joining in the upcoming videos, I'm sure.

To rerail, here is a trailer for a series based on a Dan Simmons book that isn't Hyperion but was still before he went crazy:

I have no idea how they're making an anthology series out of this, but fuckin' A look at that cast.

Wow, this is right up my alley. Looks awesome.

I just hope the series doesn't run out steam halfway through like his novels invariably do.

What's unfilmable about this?

quote:

It is circa 2032, or more precisely, the 23rd year of Jobless Recovery. The U.S. is tottering, weighing in at only 44 ½ states, its mass eaten away by Mexico, its interior rotted out by floods of immigrants, by loss of faith in a free-market economy, by national healthcare and a myriad of other entitlement programs, by the global-warming hoax and green-energy boondoggles, and by drugs, the most pervasive being "flashback," which allows its users to visit their pasts in a dream state. It's a bad, bad time, and its fatal origins lie, we are instructed, with the Obama presidency, its spendthrift domestic programs and pusillanimous foreign policy.

Highways are disintegrating, people live in former malls cut into cubicles, and, adding insult to injury, right-wing talk radio has been banned. Japanese overlords have set up "green zones" across the land and America's once proud and powerful military is now hired out as mercenaries to fight for Japan and India. At the same time, a New Global Caliphate flourishes and Islam spreads. An immense and towering mosque sits at ground zero and annual celebrations commemorate the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In Los Angeles, where much of the story takes place, the bells of Christian churches add their peels to "the cries of the muezzin ... to show their solidarity, understanding, and forgiveness." The Caliphate has obliterated Israel with 11 exceedingly dirty nuclear bombs, killing 6 million Jews. The survivors of this "Second Holocaust" are now sequestered in a former Six Flags amusement park in Denver by a U.S. government "terrified of angering the Global Caliphate" that is waiting to exterminate them.

Slight appending there. I can't recall any islamophobia in Hyperion but I also haven't revisited it after he lost his mind to look too deeply into the subtext of it all, aside from a desire to bone John Keats?

Although iirc, the first half of Olympos was written pre-9/11 and the second half was written post 9/11 and it was very, very obvious there.

In hindsight, the portrayal of Muslims in Hyperion is kinda eeeh (in a nutshell: "generally backward but benign except for a few religious extremists"). But it's in a context where most religions are at most fads because Earth got sucked into a black hole a couple centuries before the books. And then the sequels' main villains are the Catholic Church. One of the first examples of them being villains? Rounding up a Muslim village. He also clearly always had a thing about Jews/israel (it's hard to see a difference in his books) and the Holocaust. I can only see it as a seed of bigotry always being there until he started seeing Muslims as the new Nazis.

It's me, I'm the big fan horrified by the guy's descent into racism.

Magda Szubanski isn't in this? I didn't even know it was possible to film something in Australia and not have Magda appear in it. I bet they filmed it in California and just CGIed in kangaroos and poo poo to make it look like Australia, or they bought up some stock footage and greenscreened Danny McBride into it.

Also it's really really obvious that Paul Hogan will appear in this (he's got an EP credit) so it's a bit weird that they're holding off on showing him

I mean poo poo, that cast is killer. All it's missing is Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett
