I'd like some opinions on the games that are on sale right now:

No Man's Sky - Yes, I know, but I do greatly enjoy crafting and survival games and from what I've seen this one has that in spades.

The Last Guardian - Will definitely buy this one, I'd just like to know how playable it is on a Non-Pro. I heard a lot about its framerate when it came out but I didn't pay much attention because I didn't have a Ps4.

Killzone Shadowfall - Never played a Killzone, it's some kind of futurist FPS, right? Pretty drat cheap so I might as well try unless it's absolute garbage.

InFamous Second Son - Also never played an InFamous, it's like Prototype but you're more heroic? Also pretty cheap.

InFamous First Light - I suppose if I buy Second Son I might as well get this one too.

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir - I greatly enjoyed this one on the Ps2 and it might be even better on a system that can handle the gameplay without slowing to a crawl but it's still at full price so I think I'll wait until the next one, unless all the games I cited before are worse combined than this one alone.

I second Infamous and the First Light DLC. It holds up pretty well for a near launch title. I picked up Killzone at launch and bounced off it super hard.

Killzone Shadowfall is one of my favorite shooters and an amazing launch game. Most people don’t agree with me though. Does it hold up? Maybe? For the price I would say it’s well worth it if you like meaty feeling slower paced shooters.

Lefithrasir is far and away superior to the original in every respect and well worth playing.

The fact they eventually made Horizon is CRAZY to me. The KZ games are like the most generic shooters ever made.

This was literally the case for Killzone Shadowfall as Sony had already greenlit Horizon Zero Dawn but Guerrilla wanted to build their proprietary engine for the PS4 before starting work on it.

I think the original did that as well. the cutscene intro for the colossus looks identical, except for nicer graphics.

The combat seems like the camera pulls out a lot more but tbf I'm remembering another colossus with screen-filling masses of fur to climb up in the original.

Can't wait to do my sweet pro moves on the colossi, like the jump stab. Does full damage without having to charge up but puts you at greater risk of falling off.

And I'm gonna enjoy grabbing an eagle and getting flown around while looking at the updated graphics. :allears:

The Digital Foundry guys did an extensive tech review of the remaster including differences between base hardware and the Pro, if you're into that kind of thing.

I like how John can't even hide what a huge SotC fanboy he is.

The original SotC is one of the small number of PS2 games that can be set to 16:9 so I can confirm that it has always pulled out that distance.

No Man's Sky is actually really good, and the patches it's received since launch have added a ton of things to do in the game, the most recent being a completely revamped story line, new planet and ship types and simple online interactions. There's another patch on the horizon as well that should be adding more to the multiplayer side, but no one knows anything about it yet. The games biggest weakness right now though is that there's no real ground combat besides sentinels and the ground combat hasn't really received the kind of love other areas of the game have recieved so far in its post launch support.

I thought SotC was one of the very first PS2 games to have a 720i or 1080i rendering mode, but I think I just misremembered and it was the 16:9 aspect ratio that was special. Graphics were mindblowing back in the day and when I think about it, probably my first introduction into the pure visual glory that would one day become known as TressFX.

They (Guerilla Games) also made Battle Engine Aquila, which was one of my favourite PS2 demos, jumping around in a giant spider and shooting giant guns was really fun. I don't know how the full game turned ouy, though.
