No there haven't, unless you include things like "a school training officer got his duty weapon mixed up with a training gun and had a negligent discharge" and "someone shot a school bus with a BB gun" as "school shootings" and "a gun was fired on a campus at nothing in particular and nobody was hurt." There are already enough of actual school shootings without having to sensationalistically inflate the count.

So if you strike out those two drastic you only have nine school shootings with one mass shooting in the US alone, cool.

Don't they always imagine themselves as someone on the top, instead of the bottom, where they so rightfully belong? It's like the people who want a zombie apocalypse; they picture themselves as the highly armed badass, not the zombie chow they'll likely be.

The Purge is does not have an implausible premise, in-and-of itself. The premise is just “what if Halloween were real?” - that the subtext is flipped into text and all the trick-or-treaters actually become monsters. There’s a ‘Wicker Man’ pagan festival element to it. People are literally letting their demons out.

The issue is that the premise is rendered implausible through overexplanation. Instead of just saying, you know, “every year people are possessed by a literal Halloween Spirit”, there’s this nonsense of inventing an entire alternate legal system where ‘all crime is legal’. And then they invent an alternate sociopolitical and economic reality to explain where the new legal system came from. And it goes on like that.

More specific than that, the premise is just "Devil's Night", or "wilding", depending on where you're from.

In "seriously, who the gently caress wants this" news, F. Gary Gray is directing the Men in Black relaunch.

In slightly less "who the gently caress wants this" news, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Snowfall) are now in talks to direct Bad Boys for Life, because apparently Sony just can't let that die.

That's more or less the crux of the whole Atlas v Ryan conflicts. "Everyone comes to Rapture thinking they'll be captains of industry. No no asks Who cleans the toilets"

With the added commentary that sooner or later someone will step in to care/rally/exploit the underclass., and that's why libertarianism doesn't really works because it causes a power vacuum by default.

I do love Bioshock in that it poses moral philosophical questions, but unlike 90% of chickenshit video games actually answers them.

I wonder if they’ll stick with the Mario voice actor from the games. “Woo’s” and “ha-ha’s” might be okay in a bubble, but full-on dialogue with that might be, uh, shrill.

If they’re going the celebrity route, they’re gonna need to find someone who can portray the right mixture of warmth and adventuring spirit.

You know.
