The best was the Amazon reviews for this product.

"I spilled this in my driveway and now my two car garage can fit 50 cars."

I had to check out Amazon after this post, there's another 55 gallon drum from a more "off brand" lube. The packaging is great, just a black drum like you would expect oil to be sold in.

Anyhow, my favorite comment from that product is that someone, obviously facetiously, asked if they sell it in larger sizes, and the seller respond super earnestly "Thank you so much for your interest in our product! Unfortunately, 55 gallons is the largest size that we offer."

"Available in 2, 4, 8, 16 and 34 Ounce. Also available in 55 Gallon Drum."

That's one hell of a jump in size.

Anti-fans are worse. RP1 was obnoxious at best but who the gently caress cares what other people like. If someone wants to listen to Nickelback while watching Jersey Shore when they are taking a break from reading Twilight who cares

You know that kind of nerd who has no personality or sense of humor so they speak entirely in pop culture references to compensate. RP1 is that in concentrated form. I was lucky enough to have never heard of it until I saw a trailer for it in theaters. It's one thing to hate Nickelback, no one is forcing me to sit through a Nickelback song to get to a song I want to hear, but I can't go see a movie until they stop showing that trailer before everything.

My RP1 story is that I randomly bought his next book (Armada) without knowing much about the author. Barely got through the first half due to the constant HEY GAME OR NERD THING, but the second half was decent enough, if not kinda clichéd and not at all groundbreaking. Did like the concept of a bunch of alien races going around poking lesser-developed races, giving them technology to uplift them, but all too willing to genocide the upstarts if they use the technology to say "stop poking us", though.

I imagine a while novel of what the first half of Armada was to be murder.

Wait is that the plot to Armada? Because that sounds like it was lifted wholesale from Singularity Sky.

From memory, yes, but I've never read SS. Aliens go around to systems with life and basically set it up do that the local lifeforms believe the alien race is there to kill them. The initial invaders just happen to drop tech that the defenders can reverse engineer to better defend themselves and/or go on the offensive. You're given three "invasions" to realize shenanigans are happening and you're being hosed with; otherwise the alien race assumes you're too violent to be in the galaxy and your planet is blown up. The main character calls this bullshit, but the aliens go "man, gently caress you, this works. After all, you realized it, so Earth doesn't blow up."

I think the main character even says it feels like it, directly.

I dunno, like I said the first half is painful, but the second half was entertaining enough. But if RP1 is anything like the first half of Armada, gently caress that noise.

Ah, Singularity Sky was more like a galactic 4chan dropping universal fabbers on primitive planets and watching the society completely implode for entertainment.

I didn't even know about Ready Player One until the movie trailers started.
The trailer actually looks cool and good (looks like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within + Wreck-It Ralph + the image attached below), but everything I've heard about the book says it's a nostalgia wankfest.

I pretty much just found out about it the other day and I'm pretty sure the reason it wasn't more hated already is because people just hadn't heard of it. Are you really going to go to bat for the film adaptation of TV tropes: the book?
