Is RDR really even that good? I didn't get the first one because I had made the switch to PC when it came out, but people act like it's the cat's blowjob (mixing metaphors here).

And I'm late to the party but I'm finally watching Thor 3 and I've got to say... I loving HATE Takika Waitiwati or whatever's sense of humor.

He's got a great sense for visual direction. He's got a great sense for directing his actors. He clearly brought a lot of great things to Thor 3. But his sense of humor is the hackiest bullshit I've ever had to sit through. I want to twist him by his ear like a naughty schoolboy and go over the fundamentals of comedy after nearly every joke, which almost always takes the laziest, cheapest, quickest approach you could have possibly taken for any given situation.

Well, that's part of why Nintendo piles on the gimmicks. On some essential level they understand that they're never going to be the "smart center of the living room" that Sony/Microsoft have been trying and failing to be for the last 12 or so years, and instead are focused on reasons why their plastic toybox can do poo poo no other box you can buy can.

Yeah it's pretty great. E: it's got better writing and a more consistent tone than any of the GTAs, and doesn't just go for cheap cynical satire.

I'm guessing RDR2 will come to PC eventually like Rockstar's other recent stuff.

I just realized I was 29 when the first one came out....that was probably too old to take time off work to play with toy as well.

The Switch hardware is really good. The only common criticism i've heard is that in handheld mode it's too big to fit in your pocket.

I'm confident that in the next version they'll put a better scratch resistant screen on it, larger battery, and probably get rid of the kick stand.

Why are you confident there'll be a next version? The Wii U didn't have a revision, the Wii only got a revision after like 5 years and it was terrible, the Gamecube and N64 didn't have revisions. There's no track record of Nintendo coming out with new versions of their home console.

Because Sony and Microsoft have started doing mid-cycle hardware updates and Nintendo has already done it with their 3DS as well. And little things like getting rid of the kick stand probably makes it cheaper to manufacture. Consoles nowadays are expected to run for 10+ years and people want to buy new stuff earlier than that.

I like casual gaming. It's fun to admire the environment, geek out over game physics, enjoy the music and learn about the world the first time through. I'll kick up the difficulty on subsequent passes, but my first round's always, "That's a neat idea!/What track is that?/I walked through a river and I'm only wet up to my chest!/GOD RAYS, HOT drat!" A lot of people put a lot of work into making this thing and I want to be able to take a nice stroll through to admire their efforts.

My other game PHUO that has come up before and I think most folks here agree on: Sex scenes in games are awkward as gently caress and unsexy as hell. It's not fun to watch dead-faced polygons pantomime sex. Quit it.

The last one I really gave a serious effort to was probably The Witcher 3 and while the presentation was amazing, the gameplay was so drat sluggish and the soft-tutorials interminable (while promising a ton more of the same).

I'm an old man. I'm going to die in like 50 years. Get to the fun poo poo dammit. Guild Wars 2 might be shallow as hell by comparison, but there's no waiting around save for the elective story missions which have only gotten better with each expansion.

Oh, no, he's earned some time off and wants to use it doing something fun and non-work related! The horror! How dare he enjoy himself!

I'm not a german citizen and my job doesn't specify any of that in the contract so the general atmosphere is "don't do it unless you're really sick".

Usually when you hear people saying they are taking days off work to play a video game they are talking about using sick days, which is what I assumed. In any case, I think there are better uses for vacation days than playing some video game that's probably not going to live up to the hype, but to each their own.

I do think though that even if you are well within your rights to take a vacation day but you admit that it's to play a video game, some managers might use that against you in the future.

Video game consoles aren't that compelling over PC gaming if there isn't a console exclusive game that you want to play and you don't play multiplayer games in person, and not online with friends.

However, TV streaming set-top boxes (like the Roku products & the Amazon TV products) are pretty well-designed and are good products. They are pretty affordable (you can get a good one for like $50 or less), and they are really so much more convenient than using a keyboard and mouse from your couch to select the Netflix TV show you want to watch on your PC connected to your TV.

You can use an XBox controller as a mouse. It works pretty well. Or there are remote-control style controllers specifically designed for watching TV on a computer.

Yikes, that still sounds pretty inconvenient--logging into Windows, clicking through a series of menus, and typing in hulu.com in your web browser with a controller or TV remote sounds annoying just to watch Modern Family on TV. PC software interfaces are not really designed for couch use.

On a $50 Roku streaming set top box, it is a few clicks on a remote, and you are there. The user interface is designed to minimize text input, however if you need to type in text to search for a new show or movie, I use the Roku app on my phone to type in the text on my cell phone keyboard. I'm not that fond of the following technology, but on streaming set top boxes, you can use voice recognition features to input text into search fields as well. This is a way more convenient way to watch Netflix on your TV, and it doesn't cost very much at all.

Even if you don't do that, you can really easily set Windows to log in automatically (without a password), have a shortcut to your web browser on your desktop or task bar, and have bookmarks to whatever sites you need in your browser. That's a lot less effort to set up and works almost as conveniently.
