I need to set up a new checking account, and I want to do it at a place where the debit card will let me buy porn site subscriptions without any problems. Other than that, I don’t need the account to have any special features. I’m not looking to build any interest, I just want a place to keep my money so I can make online purchases (including porn subscriptions). What are the best banks to do this at?

Porn's free, yo.

Look at this BWM guy.

Seriously though, as long as it's not a credit union you're probably okay. My credit union locks my card down tight even if the payment processor is out of the country. You can imagine what they do when it's biglyyugebabes.com.

Can you specify more? Most banks are ok with porn, but not things like Anime porn... So might have to go to HSBC for something like that.

I just tried to open a checking account on WellsFargo.com and it said they were unable to approve me for Everyday Checking, but suggested that I try their Opportunity Checking account, which uhh... I don’t think that’s gonna work.

To be clear, the reason I need to set up a new checking account is because my family and I had some nastiness with our old accounts at Bank of America due to being broke for awhile, and they shut down our accounts and told us to gently caress off. I imagine that’s gonna limit my bank options, and that some (hopefully not all) of the options I have now aren’t gonna be smut-friendly.

Anybody know of some places I can try?

Some of the sites I want to get subscriptions for are based outside the USA. Like France and Brazil.

Which reminds me, I also need to get a CPF number at some point. Probably not today.

Can you buy porn with your Schwab checking account? Not anything bad like Brazilian scat. I'm thinking more like traditional like colonial cosplay porn.

You might have issues. All big banks are going to run credit checks. You might be able to get in on a credit union, but like I mentioned before...they can be tricky.

Were your parents or grandparents in the military and if so are any of them still alive? USAA provides porn for our proud servicemen in far away locales.

And the Lord said, "Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.
The big issue is that a lot of people use stolen and compromised card numbers to buy porn, so any bank will look more closely at those transactions, since they are on the hook for fraud losses. It's not just porn, any kind of digital good is high risk.

This thread isn't really for bank questions. It's more for making fun of people's financial decisions, so you're going to get grief as someone who is in financial straits trying to do anything other than taking the bus to ALDI to buy rice and beans.

Paying for porn is cool, though. I've paid for my share.

I don't know if pre-paid VISA cards work for those sites and I'm not about to Google that at work, but I'd look at that as a possibility. That would protect you from linking your basic necessities account with your kink account.

Prepaid cards don’t tend to work for sites like that because of... reasons I can’t remember from checking Google earlier but they made sense when I read them.

Last time I had to obscure the source of funds for an online purchase a prepaid Visa worked though I had to go to the Visa website and give it a name and address. Any name and address will do, especially if nothing is being mailed.

Edit

I was just being an unhelpful rear end in a top hat.

My experience is banks being more thirsty for new customers than willing to turn them away. When I was a young idiot, I let a Bank of America account go in to the negative due to a bunch of overdraw fees hitting over a weekend. Like four separate instances of $33. I said gently caress that and let whatever happens happen, and opened up a Suntrust account with no problem.

Have you gone in to banks in person and tried to sign up? I can't imagine being turned away unless what your family did was catastrophically bad. And once you get a debit card, how many sites are going to be blacklisted? I haven't bought a porn subscription since like the first day I turned 18, but no problems then, and no problems with any other purchases for the last 15 years or so.

Meh, it depends. US Bank blacklisted me for about 5 years because I over-drafted on their not a payday loan program. I owed about $300+ and 19 year old self told them to go screw.

Banks used to be real trigger happy with something called ChexSystem, it's like Experian for checking accounts, but with fewer data breaches.

I think it's a good idea to hold people accountable - via ostracism, which is the only thing attention-cravers dislike - when their record shows they have no real interest in personal growth, or development, or really changing in any way.

Boyfriend has 200+k debt at 25. Is he destined for a life of debt? Full info inside

quote:

Reddit I’m at a loss and considering ending the relationship because his debt (and current handling of it) isn’t aligning with my long term goals.

I’m definitely not rich or anything but I’m also not drowning in debt. My financial picture: 10k in student loans Money left over every month after bills, debt and expenses: $100 (I make entry level 40k gross in a very high COL area. My career has a growth opportunity especially in this area). 750 credit score I could knock out my student loans with my savings but I wouldn’t feel secure then

My boyfriends financial picture:

Student Loans 120k in private student loans @ 11% interest 20k in federal student loans @ 5% interest

Credit Cards 5k @ 24% interest. He is currently applying for a balance transfer card).

Auto Loan 15k left @ 3% The most frustrating part of this is he doesn’t NEED a car. Granted it’s more convenient but there’s ample public transport here. And of course this adds expenses such as insurance, gas and repairs.

His Income He makes 55k gross. Does not justify his student loans. He thought he was going to work in politics in DC so he needed a prestigious degree blah blah blah but it didn’t work out and now he’s in accounting.

His monthly payments JUST for the debt

SL Private: $1,230 SL Federal: $212

Car: $270

CC: $75

Total: $1,787

His NET monthly take home is around $3,500.

After his debt he has $1,700 left. His bills are: $200 insurance $90 phone $50 gas $ 80 parking

His half of the bills we share: $800 rent (our rent is as cheap as it’s getting at 1,600 total) $30 utilities $35 WiFi $200 food, household supplies, etc. Total bills for him: $1,475

His net after debt & bills: $225

He budgets 100 for his “fun money” saying he can’t live depressed just because has debt but realistically it’s more like $200. Leaving him $25-$125 which he puts in savings since he doesn’t have an adequate savings yet (less than 2k).

So all in all, he’s barely touching his principals because he’s making minimum payments. I also don’t want to pay more than half the shares bills since he has fun money he isn’t contributing to his debt and I already pay for most of our date nights. If he’s not hurting enough financially to not spend money on $8 drinks then he’s not hurting enough for me to pay more than half.

So with his current situation (and credit score of 690? What do you recommend? Is he destined to a life of debt? My boyfriend will be seeing this post so feel free to direct comments to him.

Edit FORGOT to include 60k in debt to his uncle that he is currently not paying back so it’s not included in the payments. His uncle made it clear however that it is a LOAN and there is a written agreement between them. That money was used for housing and expenses over 2 years in DC for when he went to school this adds up to the original 200k in the title
