You can evidently buy one in the US as well see: https://www.webasto-comfort.com/int/heating/car-parking-heater/fuel-operated-heating/

It came with my used car, evidently installing one to an old car here costs around 2000 euros, but if you buy a new car its a bit less to have installed at the factory.
It uses about 0,5l of fuel per hour of heating, you can set a timer on it, so your car is heated up when you want to leave.

i worked in palo alto for a while and people liked to blather on about the tap water being so great there for some reason. tasted the same as what i got in san mateo and san francisco, although i haven't bothered to really compare them since i'm not a weirdo.

a comparatively insane number of people move to palo alto from all over
actual palo alto natives are basically now a tiny fraction of palo alto peeps. they mostly all got priced out

I have this handwarmer that zippo makes. It uses some catalytic thing that you have to kickstart with a flame, and then it just slowly consumes lighter fluid for hours and hours while staying really warm. Other than looking cool, it's I guess more useful for really long trips and such, because you can refill it, instead of constantly throwing away chemical warmers, or having to reboil the reusable ones.

When I first got it I just kinda held it at my desk because "oh hey new toys" and "smooth warm thing in winter". Then I got a headache and read the pamphlets in box and it was like "lol don't use this indoors you will die from fumes." I'm really smart sometimes :downs:.

this mostly sounds rad because it works as a block heater

in the u.s. most block heaters are electric so you have to find a plug :(

their whole gimmick originally was going to be only having the water available with their app

looks like they had to add a normal free button for water in order to get places to actually install them

but their main sell was that it was supposed to be "look now you can fill your water bottle easily without having to tip it over or something to catch the arc!" but a ton of public water fountains had already been getting converted to have a bottle filler built in for years. l

czeching their website it looks like they source from a number of springs all over florida and not from what tampa's using for municipal supply

which makes sense for commercially bottled water - the point is that i'd be more impressed about your local water table if they bottled a lotta coke and mountain dew and whatnot nearby, since that implies that your municipal water is sourced from a nice confined aquafer that provides water needing v little treatment for odor and color, the two most notoriously difficult things to treat

the point i was gonna make originally was that, at least here, all the bottled water bottling plants don't pull from the municipal supplies, they pay primo prices to rape our natural beautiful springs directly

then i realized i was getting into an argument about goddamn bottled water and dropped that angle

tbf the northern half of florida is p well off for water if i'm remembering my eveg classes correctly thanks to the high rainfall providing something like the second or third most usable surface water of any state and also more or less doin a good job recharging groundwater sources

or maybe it was #2 in most surface water used thanks to ag but either way it doesn't start tasting like it's had feet sittin in it until you get down past tampa
