As debate rages over Adani's controversial Queensland coal mine, construction has quietly begun on Australia's largest wind farm project in the same state. The first sod was turned on Coopers Gap Wind Farm, 250 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, on Wednesday morning. Due to be completed in 2019, the 453-megawatt wind turbine project will produce 1.5 million megawatt-hours of renewable energy annually, as the Queensland government moves towards a 50 per cent renewable energy target by 2030. AGL Energy secured environmental approval for the project last year and it is expected to be developed at a cost of $500 million. Energy Minister Anthony Lynham said the farm, along with 10 approved solar projects in the region, would have major benefits for Queensland. "Together, they represent more than 2000 megawatts of renewable energy that will help power Queensland's electricity grid and its regional economies, and help us meet our international emissions reduction commitments," Dr Lynham said. "Coopers Gap will bring $850 million of investment, 200 construction jobs, and up to 20 ongoing operational jobs to the Western Downs." The announcement came on the same day Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk followed Bill Shorten's lead in distancing Labor from Adani's $16.5 billion Carmichael coal mine, saying the Indian miner has failed to meet key finance and job creation milestones. The wind farm is located between Dalby and Kingaroy in the state electorate of Nanango, held by LNP Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington. Ms Frecklington was not impressed by the extra jobs generated by the project, saying Labor was pursuing renewables at the expense of the mining sector. "It is obvious that the government is only prepared to support green jobs ahead of other Queenslanders," she told reporters in Brisbane.

I first heard the Barnaby rumours from this very thread. Someone posted that the woman he was cheating on his wife with was driving up and down the streets of his electorate with a megaphone yelling that he had slept with her and then fired her to try and hush it up.

Someone posted that the woman he was cheating on his wife with was driving up and down the streets of his electorate with a megaphone yelling that he had slept with her and then fired her to try and hush it up. That was his daughter. To clarify, during the New England by-election one of Barnaby's daughters (he has 3 iirc) got absolutely hammered and drove around Tamworth in his campaign truck with a megaphone screaming about how he was scum and not to vote for him. Somehow think Barnabus isn't gonna have a relationship with his older kids after this one. The rumour was that he was spotted in an abortion clinic next to a much younger woman who had been a staffer for him. She is younger (don't know how much by), and had been a staffer. Not so much an abortion though. Schlesische fucked around with this message at 12:16 on Feb 7, 2018 |

Much like that time the Chaser tried to walk up to John Howard with a running chainsaw and his minders were just like "...come on mate, put it down..." but didn't make a big deal, the fact that this is a thing where most people are going "meh" is one of those things I love about Australia. Can you imagine if Mike Pence had an affair and got a staffer pregnant? It would be the scandal of the decade in the US. It's nice to see Barnaby getting stuffed over for being a hypocritical fuckwit, but it's also nice that in this area Australia pays more attention to policies than the pollies themselves.

Andrew Elder with another blog post of interestquote:J'accuse: political journalists deliberately held off reporting, or even confirming, stories about Joyce's infidelity in order to maximise his chances of winning, and by extension ensure the continuation of the Turnbull government. It's a roundup of how the MSM did/did not do journalism around Joyce and Alexander's peccadillos (yes, we somehow overlooked that yesterday). quote:Imagine the impact on Australian politics of a Deputy Prime Minister felled by the feisty women of his broken household, who weren't going to put up with his poo poo any more.
