This mind sound like heresy to people in here, but SOTC is the perfect game to redbox for a day or two if you're not sure you're gonna like it. It's short, and there's literally no reason to replay it unless you want to "experience" it again.

I bought it because I pretty consistently play the game every 5 years or so it seems, and I figure the way consoles are headed these days there's a pretty high possibility I'll be able to play this copy on whatever version of playstation there is 5 years from now or whatever.

There will be a remake for the PS Existence when we place our consciousness into the game

They begin again

I don’t rent, only buy digitally so even if I don’t finish it $40 isn’t too bad. If anything I want to support the developers so I wouldn’t be left annoyed either way. I might wait for a sale since I’ve got a nice backlog but we’ll see. The hype might suck me in.

I tried playing every uncharted game couldn't finish a single one because of the god drat ridiculous concept of throwing 70 solders at you every 5 seconds. It drove me insane.

It's disappointing because there are a lot of areas where they don't throw waves of enemies at you and they're super fun.

It feels to me like the combat should be sort of like Batman/Deus Ex/Dishonored but my guess is those games lend themselves to a lot of waiting and observing, but they wanted to preserve a real sense of being under pressure and forward momentum, and the current combat system is actually pretty good at that.

I dunno I’ve been reading a lot of takes lately claiming this is the one true way to experience this game. Maybe you need to replace that monitor with a CRT and give the original another shot.

SotC is a really good game and I'm enjoying it a lot, but the way people treat it ITT is a bit ridiculous. For example, plenty of games did horses better than this one. I think the horse is fine but it's really not great by any means. Maybe it was great when it was originally made, but it's not anymore. If "the horse in SotC kinda sucks" is the worst opinion you've read in 2018 you're living a very sheltered life.

Sure, but even as a hyperbole it's a pretty stupid reaction. The horse controls in SotC just aren't that good (anymore? Didn't play the original).

I never played this game originally and have no prior emotional attachment to it. I think the horse controls perfectly since you don't have to do poo poo other than point it in the right direction then kick it. I feel like I really missed out playing sotc earlier, but it's also one of those games I would be wishing I could play again for the first time.

I think only handful of them will even attack before being provoked. And even then "attacking" usually amounts to trying to get you the gently caress off of them. 3 is a dick though I never feel bad killing his giant sword rear end.

It's definitely interesting returning to SOTC, although I guess the last time I played it wasn't that long ago. Game really is timeless. I think someone could play it 50 years from now and still get the same enjoyment which I could say about very few PS2 games, or poo poo even modern games.

If you just started don't worry about it too much, it gets easier once you get more platinum hostesses and can remember what all the hand gestures mean without having to wait for them to tell you, just make sure you specialise them in one thing instead of trying to make them uh jack of all trades. And sometimes customers are just assholes who will never be happy, especially the rich ones.

I literally just found a guide for the hand signals until I memorized them. it's very easy once you've got them down

think I failed one of the rival showdowns once but that's it

e: you can get 3 perfect stats on your platinum hostesses but I don't think you can get the pink double circle on all 4

The only game I can think of that warrants a total, lovingly crafted remake from the PS2 era is probably RE4. Everything else I can think of is just "yeah it was good/great, but I get it and don't need to play it again".

This excludes MGS2/3 which I play every year and I'm all good with the HD releases.

Eh, the more I play Monster Hunter, the more I'm becoming disenchanted with it. I tried playing with a couple different weapons to rule out problems with a specific weapon -- and I just don't think it's that fun to play. The extremely long animation times and the delay from switching from using weapons to using items just feels really bad, and the fights aren't really satisfying. They're just dumping damage into sponges until they suddenly die -- it doesn't feel like I'm learning or adapting or accomplishing anything like I do with, say, Souls bosses.

Like, I've also been targeting weak points to break off parts, using traps and bombs, and eh, they don't actually feel like I've accomplished something cool, the numbers are just bigger for a moment or two. Grouping up doesn't actually make the fights more interesting, they just make them shorter. Also the loot isn't particularly captivating. If there weren't palicoes and I wasn't playing it with friends I would be more likely to drop this game.

Basically it's like Borderlands -- there's the vaguest whiff of gameplay which makes it good to just mindlessly jump in to shoot the poo poo with friends, but not because there's actually strong gameplay there

There are other words in that post. Like how I explained that I don't think there are meaningfully interesting combat choices and it's just about mashing buttons to deal damage to a damage sponge
