lol, okay i thought the FSA was the same thing as the SDF, shows how much i know

The sdf is a """"coalition""" dominated by the ypg.

Since the ypg is linked to the pkk which is branded as a terrorist group, the state department (or cia- I forget which one supports the Kurds and which one supports al qaeda ) wasn't allowed to fund and arm them without rebranding them. So speaking practically, SDF = YPG

The SDF are the Arab allies of the YPG organized politically as part of the PYD. They're not exactly the same, and some SDF groups don't adhere to the same level of discipline that the YPG/J does. Organizing the SDF was how the YPG were able to prevent a push on Manbij by the Turks, because if the area was held by Arab fighters the Turks didn't have a claim that they were clearing the area of Kurdish terrorists. They planned on attacking Manbij anyway, but when ISIS put up a real resistance at Al-Bab the Turkish offensive ground to a halt.

Syriac Military Council is an Assyrian self-defense force that allied to the YPG after the Kurds helped liberate some of their villages from Jabhat al-Nusra a few years ago.

Keep in mind here, the Turks have threatened that they will shoot at American soldiers if they embed themselves with the YPG in Afrin.

SAA have been attacking a pocket of territory over the last week that was taken by ISIS in Idlib, before the recent government offensive there. It's gone now.

Turns out the FSA is concerned about videos leaking out of Turki Jihadis mutilating the bodies of rebels, and chopping the breasts off dead YPJ fighters.

So how long has it been since Turkey struck SDF territory? Can we start laughing at how incompetent they've been or are we still worried about their gains?

It's been 2 weeks and 5 days, and in that time all they've accomplished is take a few pockets about 2-3 kilometers deep in isolated spots along the borders.

Even if the Turks had a competent command, the actual ground fighting is being done by undisciplined Salafist maniacs.

By the way, if you're wondering why all the Turkish accounts online are praising this offensive, it's because anybody who criticizes it has been arrested. It's not widely reported yet, because it's buried in the newswires of WaPo and the NY Daily News.

http://www.nydailynews.com/newswires/news/world/latest-russia-pilot-downed-syria-fought-back-article-1.3800003

4:30 p.m.

Turkey says it has detained 573 people for criticizing its offensive in northern Syria since the operation began earlier this month.

An Interior Ministry statement said Monday that 449 people have been detained so far for allegedly engaging in "terror propaganda" on social media, while a further 124 were detained for participating in protests against the military operation into the Syrian Kurdish-held enclave of Afrin.

Turkey launched its offensive on Jan. 20 to clear Afrin of Syrian Kurdish forces, whom Ankara views as terrorists because of their links to Kurdish insurgents in Turkey.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused opponents of the offensive of supporting terrorism, while authorities warned they would be prosecuted.

Those detained include several members of the Turkish Medical Association who warned against the operation's human costs. Erdogan accused the group of being "terrorist lovers."

There's just no way to avoid losing tanks when you're taking on light infantry armed with ATGMs, because they can be deployed from anywhere and strike from anywhere. That's why you don't engage in a war of choice where the enemy has all the defensive advantages.

It's winding down now and HTS has retaken a few villages, but the SAA took back a big chunk of territory in the southeast around Abu al-Duhur. It's not exactly a decisive blow, but it's progress.

I just hope by the end of the year we get Erdogan left with the choice of either having to go back to Ankara with his tail between his legs or trying some sort of il thought out invasion.

Pro-Assad militias attacked SDF positions in the Deir-ez-Zor countryside 12 hours ago, then the US and SAA exchanged shellings and airstrikes. Could just be a flash in the pan, Assadist militias testing SDF strength while forces are drawn to Afrin. Might be the start of something bigger.

The Israeli army said Saturday morning that it intercepted an Iranian drone launched from Syria into Israeli territory. In response to the provocation, the IDF attacked Iranian targets in Syria.

Two Israeli Air Force pilots ejected from their fighter jet during the strike. The plane went down in northern Israel. The two pilots were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
