I really liked the Darren Aronofsky Noah movie, partially due to all the stuff included from the apocryphal texts like the fallen angels. The opening, with the big bang described in Genesis terms, was a little on the nose, but it set the tone of the movie well, and I like that the climax isn't due to any external force, just a nasty combination of Religious misinterpretation and cabin fever. It all comes down to "It's a girl! poo poo! Run..."

I've read elsewhere that Slit and Nux are basically set up as a Goofus and Gallant type duo, demonstrating that even within Immortan Joe's hosed up society there's good and bad people. Slit is resentful and insults the fallen, Nux is actually friendly even with the blood-bag who's trying to kill him. Watched the MEDIOCRE scene again and I still wouldn't know it was Slit if it hadn't been mentioned. I like how each warlord's tactics seem indicative of their specialty. Gun Farm shoots a lot of bullets, Gas Town sprays flame everywhere. Water World doesn't necessarily use water, but they also don't shoot a lot of guns or spray flame everywhere since they'd have to trade for those items.

I think the War Boys are meant to be Immortan Joe's gimmick, dozens of expendable children raised into a culture where they're expected to die in his service and see it as the greatest honour. There seems to be kind of a theme of him perverting and enslaving life and nature, with his harem of overweight sex slaves and literal milking cows in a world where everyone is starving and lucky to get the bare minimum, and so on.

Immortan Joe has resources, the water and green stuff, to support a population where he can get his warboys. Don't think bullet town and gas town can't build similar manpower by feeding people gun powder, brass, lead and gas.

War Boys all have radiation related illnesses that are slowly killing them(mostly cancer it seems), Joe uses that and gives them something they can't get elsewhere, an opportunity to die in a meaningful way instead of just another victim of the wasteland. At first I thought all the heads on his necklace were stillborn or miscarried brothers and sisters. But no, they're dolls. Still didn't see him as mentally disabled, although I get it now. It's not like there were a whole lot of smart people around Joe.

I just watched Fury Road the other day and man, what a perfect movie. One of the coolest action movies I've ever seen, and so much more than that. Yeah it's pretty horrifying to realize that if any number of tiny things had happened differently, it would have resulted in such a totally different ending - instead of a "happy ending" where he's a hero for killing a bad guy and saving a girl in distress, he would have been a cold blooded killer who assassinated a popular senator. he's still the same person, he's not different or better because he just happened to do the heroic thing, it was his first instinct to assassinate the senator and he only bailed out of self preservation when he saw he was going to get caught. His obsession with Jody Foster's character was huge but "saving" her was still his second choice, his backup plan after he realized he wasn't going to get to kill the senator. The wasteland communities are pretty advanced for post-apocalyptic societies so I think Bullet Farm is actually making their own ordiance. There's definitely scarcity though. Very few of The Citadel's people have anything better than a shotgun and I don't recall anyone from Gas Town with a firearm except for the People Eater's personal protection - although that was a pretty good sub-machine gun. And why would you want a gun when you can just spit fire all day long. The 3 cities are pretty well balanced. No one has enough ammo to beat the Bullet Farm, no one has enough fuel to outlast Gas Town, and everyone needs water. EDIT: do they ever call Joe's wives by their names? Well, for a lot of the movie they're trying to not damage Joe's wives and keeping fire/explosives to a minimum. I do agree that, similar to present day, small arms are a lot easier to get your hands on than a Ma Deuce or something.

Where did Max get those mines he used to slow them down in the swamp? Is that something Furiosa would have brought? Or maybe those were the business ends of exploding spears? Which are the coolest weapons in Fury Road.
