My hotas has the detents thing on the throttle, I use the bottom one as a guide for where my 0% throttle is and use full range, and set my axis in the control panel appropriately, with a deadzone that accounts for the play in the detent: (it's the rudder axis)

i wonder what Steve Kirby really thinks of Sandy. I bet that;s a weird working relationship. I have only seen a few live streams, but my take: Ed looks very comfortable with Steve, less comfortable with Sandy, and WAY uncomfortable with Braben.

The beta is over, i hope everyone had fun goofing around I rolled a max-speed sidewinder, and it's seriously delightful to fly. The imp courier is also fun, but the vertical and lateral thrusters are more responsive on the sidey, probably because the ship's mass is lower. Does anyone know which ship has the most responsive translational thrusters? I can't find any data, but it feels like the hauler might actually win this contest.

So uh, what's the deal with not buying Saitek products mentioned in the OP? It looks like a bunch of goons have them anyway, I'm just kind of wondering if it's a "they are lovely about product support and their products have lovely build quality" thing or more of a "their CEO is a terrible sexmonster and here are some horror stories about working there" thing. I already have an X52 so it's kind of moot but I was mostly curious. Also midway through training missions I stopped being able to use the hat switch to navigate up/down in menus so there's that I guess.

Saitek was notoriously lovely in its construction/parts for years before Logitech came through and bought them out. Quality seems better nowadays review wise but I'm sure many are still wary of the decade where they were bottom barrel worthless.

I think that's only the personal preference of the OP. Personally, I prefer my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, since most Saitek-products are not really to my liking. And I like binding tons of dumb poo poo to my keyboard, so the second controller of stuff like the X52 would be more of a hindrance Rynoto posted:Saitek was notoriously lovely in its construction/parts for years before Logitech came through and bought them out. Probably because I've always been a Logitech-guy when considering joysticks.

On joysticks, I hate that the only game I’m currently using my joystick for is Elite, because I can’t justify a new HOTAS purchase and I really like the new Thrustmaster T10000 or whatever it’s called. It looks like such a beast. I have the X55 and while it looks cool out of the box it.. kind of lacks a weight and build quality? That might just be game controllers as a whole, but the buttons feel loose. I’m not totally thrilled with the placement of certain elements either, but that’s more personal taste than quality.

I bought my x55 from a friend it had been his third replacement after one was DOA and the other stopped working after a year and started literally arc lightning his fingers if he was wearing metal. But so far this third one's worked for me for two years with only one minor problem. And it's great because it's got a bunch of flicky switches on it for extra immersion.

My X52 is the bees knees and the worst thing about it is that Win10 shuts the driver off if I don't use it for 24 hours, which means I have to go into the control panel and turn the LED lights back on. I'm even still using the defunct MadCatz software and I love it. I think the x55 has a few more buttons, and is made of sturdy metal, but the x52 is very solid and has suction cups so my jittery throttling and haphazard stickwork don't end up moving it around. I literally went from being terrified of interdictions and always submitting to consistently escaping, even before the nerf! ymmv fakeedit: oh, it does come with throttle detents, but they can be taken out in a simple (if nerve-wracking) procedure. After I lost those the whole setup has been a dream!

Well the stick works great, now I just have to get into what seems like a nigh-impenetrable game. The last 4 pages of this thread honestly seem like they might as well be in another language. I've just been taking courier/delivery jobs in the starting ship but the amounts of credits I'm earning make everything seem so loving expensive and I'm not sure what I should be saving for.
