re: turkey in afrin quote:The Turkish Medical Association stated that the war could end in large-scale human tragedy to which Erdogan responded by calling the doctors of the association "filth", "agents of imperialism", and "terrorist lovers".[141] The Turkish interior ministry then opened an investigation into the association.[141] At least eleven doctors were then arrested.[142] Erdogan stated that the association will lose it "Turkish" tag in its official name and clarified that the organization "will not be able to use the notion of Turkishness, nor the name Turkey." He then added: "This institution has nothing to do with Turkishness and nothing about them is worthy of the notion of Turkishness."[143] :borat:

Attn big leftist brain falling for clickbait It’s clear from the full transcript of the press conference that Mattis is referring to allegations of Sarin use since the US attack on Shayrat airbase, which means Wilkie either didn’t read the transcript, read it and misunderstood it, or read it and decided to claim something it didn’t say. More disturbingly still is Newsweek published the article without first doing basic fact checking on the central premise of the article. Often Abbreviated posted:How are the turks so bad at this. IMO it's the same kind of problem the IDF has. You spend so much time being a glorified police force trying to keep the lid on an insurgency, that you forget how to fight a real war. That said, the Turks & FSA are still making some progress. It's just extremely slow and they haven't achieved anything decisive.

The truth is they are just moving slowly, today's attack was a definitive Kurdish victory, but the Turks are still winning in Afrin. Part of the reason it looks like they are not is because the grogs who make the maps of this conflict use a "zone of control" depiction, something that was invented in WW1 to show the very specific situation on the western front. There is a reason why zone of control maps were not used for the Napoleonic wars. They only make sense when you have a definitive front that moves back and forth, those don't exist anywhere in this war. A band of Turkish-backed infantry walk into a town, they leave in the night, a band of YPG walk into it next, they leave at morning. A Kurdish anti-tank gun takes out a technical, a Turkish airstrike blows up three YPG. That is the "intensity" of the Afrin op. There is not nearly a big enough concentration of forces to warrant the type of maps used for the region.

https://twitter.com/M3t4_tr0n/status/962984856392290305 Israelis are holding off their air campaign until they can get Iron Dome sufficiently deployed in the Golan Heights. Maybe they'll start bombing again once that's done, but they probably shouldn't be trying to test the Syrians who will have much better rockets than the homebrew model rockets that Hamas uses. If Syria does a retaliatory rocket attack on the Golan Heights, then Israel would have to escalate their involvement in the war or lose face.
