Having driven on grass with performance tires, yeah, they're slippery as poo poo on anything not-tarmac or gravel, and on gravel they're not ideal. That part I believed.

The computer throwing a fit, I'm not sure on. Doesn't look like they damaged anything on them since they continued on to the next challenge, overheating something in the gearbox maybe?

I wouldn't be surprised if the limited performance mode is due to an e-diff or something like that(which will cook the brakes/integrated clutch pack when hooning offroad esp when using tarmac tires).

It could be that the ECU noticed the filter getting clogged with dust and shut down.

Excellent episode. The celebrity guests were okay. Paris didn't really talk much but she didn't exactly seem like she was asked to come on to be entertaining or anythign more than to have a big name from the tabloids. All of those extra bits on the Model X look absolutely useless though, if entertaining.

Each thing was added as an easter egg in a major software update. The amount of them says how long Tesla has been around, which illustrates how long it took for Jeremy to finally review one, long after UK Top Gear and Tajikistan Tractor Times did.

Halfway through, I went to fix us both a coke float.
By the time I got back, he'd gone insane.
Plus, he'd left the gate open and there was evil everywhere.

On a regular car, it is. But if you're going to ape off road styling elements and higher ride height, you need to make it work off road.

And the drivetrain certainly shouldn't throw a hissy fit at being asked to do some romping about in loose dirt, or get up a slope with a very light trailer.

Marketing a large family car as something that is in no way a large family car has been a thing in the Auto industry for a long time. (see last Grand Caravan, last whatever GM's minivan was called, current ranges of crossovers based on car chassis)

What I'm saying is Porsche would have made a really lovely Caprice Wagon as well.

Worst part of the show going to HD. Why are his teeth such a horrifying yellow? What is going on with Richard's hair?

May's aging quite gracefully though.

Hammond is an absolute cosmetic surgery Frankenstein at this point. He's hard to look at. Clarkson is aging awfully, Hammond is spending as much as he can to avoid aging at all, and May looks like a regular nice old dude.

After all the accidents the only reference pictures they had were for a much younger model, so when they put him back together again they didn't really have a choice

I actually wonder how the level of complaints compares these days, because with the BBC show it was always possible that some whiny fucker with too much time on their hands would just happen across it while channel surfing or because they didn't change the channel after watching whatever aired before it. On Amazon at least someone in your household actively chose to watch it (or I guess the dog chewed the remote just right).

It did seem kind of lovely of them to go to a poor village in Africa, joke about with rotting food, and then take off in a helicopter. But the episode was funny.

I wonder how long May was actually sitting in the Mercedes. When my dad's RV was struggling because the exhaust was clogged, my mom and I got in the Crown Vic we were towing to help push the RV to a truck stop. The diesel exhaust smell was not great.

I saw a clip before the season started of Hammond driving a car around London with a huge oil painting of himself strapped to the side and complaining about how embarrassing it was. He said it would make sense in the context of the final cut, but meanwhile he's driving about London with a bloody huge picture of himself strapped to his car.

Deleted scene?

Could be the intended effect. They'd probably inspire more people to action by showing what the conditions actually look like and their token failed attempt and prompt departure leaving viewers wanting to actually do something meaningful about the issues those places have.

It's definitely not meant to be a feel good episode, or at least wasn't received that way.

Jeremy's solution was working surprisingly well until his smoking idea, but hell those roads are practically impassable.

Dude?
I doubt anyone was expecting them to solve poverty. I think people were expecting some basic respect for the people they were filming. Driving cars with intentionally spoiled food into an impoverished village and flying off in a helicopter was obviously a joke but it was in really poor taste and marred an otherwise funny episode. I would have preferred they found a way to do the same stuff without exploiting the plight of the people of Bingo.
