I'm most upset because this whole sequence is just shredding the basic science fictional rules trappings of the setting as it's been presented. Apparently in SFP world, psychic mindscapes were always a real thing, Patrick's just the first person to access them. How else do we explain this? That's a huge deal, not least because it implicitly endorsed any weird crackpot approach to the mind that believes in Astral travel or w/e. Also Alison asking 'am I dead' is maybe the worst line of dialogue in a while, because it implies she believes in heaven but if she's religious it has never once come up in any philosophical context.

We came into this chapter asking "What is the Conspiracy?" and now are leaving with "Why was her teacher jumping around Patrick's mind?" "Who is Patrick's dog-killing mother?" "Why'd we have to go through multiple pages of young Patrick only to sum up the interesting part of his life into one page?" "Why does everyone have mindscapes?" And to top it off, they didn't even answer the original question.
