Khorne posted:Those APRs are reasonable for real short term loans. If you borrow $200 and pay it back in a day you'll pay a few dollars on it. Obviously, you get wrecked if you can't pay it back immediately. First of all they usually get you to write them a check for the amount to be repaid or get your bank details so not really, the only risk is if you are so drat broke you literally don't have $20 for them to pull out of your account in installments. I'd be pretty amazed if they had a very high rate of loans that default, and then they can sell them on to collectors so you're not really out the whole amount anyway. Second of all sure fine loan me $500 I'll pay you back $550 in a month but the predatory part is when they obfuscate all the fees and poo poo and run the scam on unsuspecting people who just need some help and then before you know it you've paid $300 in "service fees" on a $500 loan meaning $0 of the principal is paid down and the interest has also been ticking so you still owe them $550 despite the $100/mo payments you've been making - how would you like to pay? Or we can roll this over to a new loan for you. Sure, you're right, if they were legit trying to just make an honest buck (as honest as you can be with usury) then that's one thing but for real these are some of the shittiest most predatory "businesses" that exist in this country and what's more they directly prey on people already so destitute that they are living paycheck to paycheck and not even making ends meet with that. Yeah, the other big scam that can happen (which Scott Tucker's companies did) is obfuscate the terms so the APR listed is what you pay if you pay in full on the first payment date. But they label everything as if you'd be pay $x payments, and when you end up doing that payment on the date, it is actually a "renewal fee". The standard Tucker loan would have the first 4 "payments" be renewal fees, so not even a cent of principal is touched. Most people would think by that time they'd be close to done, when in reality their loan has ballooned out. Now the APR is in the thousands of percent rather than hundreds.

The Blockchain would be able to fix all these problems, because it’s based on Transparecy and immutability. Also Smart Contracts. It’s too bad the government is too blind to see.

The new Netflix doc series "Dirty Money" features this guy on the second episode. They even interview him and his family and they are the most unapologetic shits ever. It's all woe is me I am such a victim of the big bad government they are ruining my life. If you don't believe in guillotines for financial criminals, just listening to his wife will change your mind. She literally says that their lives are being ruined over "just a number in a box." It was pretty hilarious how heart broken he looked when they were taking his multiple sports cars away. Waltzing Along posted:Can I buy prostitutes with bitcoin?
