I had a wet palette in a foil baking tin and I kept inside a Ziplock bag and it lasted for days. It probably would've lasted longer, but I bought an airtight Hefty container and I presume it'll last almost indefinitely.

My friend told me that his friend puts a few drops of thinner (maybe Lahmian Medium?) in his Citadel paint pots along with a stainless steel ball bearing and it keeps it well-thinned and stops it from gooping up with a few shakes. I could see it working, but you don't get to mix colors of course unless you do it on a dry palette.

Far be it from me to question Duncan himself, but why doesn't he use a wet palette? At least in his videos. Is it simply because GW doesn't make a wet palette like Privateer Press does, therefore he's not allowed to use it? I know he uses the Citadel dry palette pads, but every video I can see wasted dry paint on the palette.

He might use one privately, but they're not going to use anything in the videos that they don't make. There's no way he uses those palette pads in real life.

He did recommend Microsol and Set at Nova, but made sure no one from marketing was around first.

The artist says that he applies a wash to the cracks and then removes the wash from the armor 30 minutes later. How do you remove a wash like that without damaging the paint underneath?

He's using an oil wash. You take it off using white spirits.

Edit: Here's a guide on how to use them, from start to finish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uxfqXql-gg

He uses those palette pads in the hang out and paint videos they do. He even showed off his previous palette pad in the last one they did.

Cleaned up and then pinned my first metal mini today. Learned the side cutters I've got are crap and I need some https://www.amazon.com/KNIPEX-78-61...L70_&dpSrc=srch power to actually cut the stainless steel wire for the pins.

That is if something like that can cut through stainless steel alright.

What are you pinning that needs stainless steel wire? Brass wire should be fine for any normal project.

Paperclips are somewhere between super cheap and free, depending on if you buy them or liberate them from work.

I vastly prefer using guitar string for pinning infantry-sized models since it's really easy to get super-thin ones and it "springs" back into shape a lot better than brass, which I feel like is probably beneficial(?). Brass rod is my go-to for bigger joins, though.

These are great. The highlights are really clean which is critical for good-looking black armor. You've really nailed it and the greys you've chosen give it a matte effect which is perfect for Raven Guard. Personally, I like using a blue-grey for the first layer to give a slightly glossy/polished effect, but that wouldn't suit things here.

The banner's well done too. Is the Raven Guard symbol a transfer?

It's what came with the pin vice. And I'd like to use them up before just moving on to paperclips.

Edit: Mind I am kind of guessing that it's stainless steel, it never actually said on the packaging.

Yes it is, from the Raven Guard Legion transfer sheet from FW.

It may well be his personal preference to use a dry palette, but it is his job to sell you GW stuff so them not making a wet palette is probably the ultimate reason.

Brass or carbon steel wire is like $2 for more than you'll ever need.

I have some guitar string from when I first started building models. Maybe I'll give that a shot in this big one I'm building.

The crux of the issue here is that you don't need a $28 tool to cut through steel wire.

Crossposting from the Oath thread. This thing needed work when I got it. It was a rescue from eBay I got for $15. So much scraping mold lines and gap filling. The autocannon barrel was off center by like 1/16". I had to ad-hoc some sponsons because the old ones were no where to be found. So I used some spare lascannons from a Razorback kit. I'm pretty happy with the end result.
