I went to a live Smackdown like a year ago and some dude behind me obviously had not watched the product in a while and kept bitching about all the women and foreign wrestlers. We came close at WrestleMania 31 (2015) they announced the return of the Diva Search for that Fall. But they cancelled it for unexplained reasons. For context Becky, Charlotte and Sasha debuted on the main roster that July.

Two of those things were completely voluntary though? Just from reading about it, it sounds like she was doing pretty well for herself on the indy circuit at least as far as number of bookings and holding various championships goes. Why give that up to take a big cut on your merch, get no benefits outside of [possible] health care, no retirement benefits, no set schedule, no guarantee of work, and having to deal with notoriously anti-labor management? I get it for a guy like AJ or Joe who has been around the world a million times and just wants to sort of settle down, but for someone who is still up and coming, and already doing well, what's the point? Just to pad that resume? edit: If apollo crews did eye pokes along with the press slams and standing shooting stars he'd pretty much be the best.

Also remember how 2004 men's only Tough Enough prize was a million dollar contract and in the same year the Divas search prize was $250,000 contract? I mean the Tough enough contract was a piss take that meant the million dollars was split over four years and that it was only guaranteed for the first year, effectively making it one year $250,000 contract, but for a while WWE was openly saying that a woman was only worth a fourth of a man.
