Hopefully hasn't been mentioned already but it seems Foxtel in Australia is not currently going to be showing the 2018 season.

No mention of it in their sports calendar and someone on the forums asked and was told it's not being shown.

I really hope it's not true as behind F1, Indycar is my second favourite racing series.

22 full-time cars. With part timers, the field will be a solid 24 cars at St. Pete, Long Beach, Indy GP, Mid-Ohio.

Anyone have a list for the Indy 500 yet? I saw that Dan Ica's deal looks to be with ECR, so there's that.

Up one car from last year, but with 10 full time and 2 part time teams that are doing more than just the 500 instead of 8 last year full time and 1 part time.

That's good improvement if you ask me.

Yup - this is definitely a far more healthy grid, compared to when AA, Penske, and Ganassi were 12 cars combined before you even added the 500-only entries.

Thom Burns, who was co-owner of the Lazier team for the 2016 500, has apparently started a new team & is planning a run at the Indy 500 this year. If this Twitter account is to be believed:

We are at 31 confirmed cars for indy, not counting the 2 D&R want to run. Could also see 1 more from Dale, 1 more from Juncos, 1 more from Foyt, etc.

Cool to have car count not even be a concern.

Surely the problem is still engine leases?

IOwnCalculus
Apr 2, 2003

Yep. Not like there's any old engines left laying around anywhere. I could maybe see getting 34 or 35 cars if a manufacturer is willing to bet that leasing another one out through qualifying won't actually increase the number of race-ready engines they need to support.

Ha, Robin and Marshall must have seen this thread.

http://www.racer.com/indycar/item/147438-does-the-indy-500-already-have-its-33-entries

So Karam and Hildebrand in the D&R cars, Daly in a 4th Coyne, and Oriol in a 3rd Rahal. I think the third SSM car will happen, based on their earlier quotes. Looks like 34-35 entries to me.

No mention of Monterrier at all. I'd be very surprised at this point if we didn't have some bumping happen.

My hope is that Lazier bumps Sage Karam to 34, and then loses a wheel halfway through the race, but in a safe and funny way again.

I have a feeling they probably could enter on their own if the OEM requirement was lifted. ICS might also have to modify the rules to limit how many teams non-OEM builders would have to be able to support. I think that was a rule.
