I'm typing this on a modem M that I just spilled a full beer through (this morning I also tipped my coffee over onto the number pad). Given that it is literally old enough to drink, I've been thinking about replacing it. Are any of these new-fangled mech keyboards as resistant to liquids as this god drat tank of a keyboard?

dragon naturally speaking is the best when you talk to it in a completely different language and it starts generating random poetry because it absolutely refuses to admit it can't understand you

last night I tried to clean the base plate in my cherry mx blue keyboard and just brushing the dust/crumbs off around the switches and pouring some iso on it seems to have been enough to make 6 different switches lose their clickyness
now the MX blues are more mechanically complicated than most others but I'd say no they're probably won't survive a coffee cup

they're surprisingly easy to replace though, so i got it repaired this afternoon by popping in new switches, and all but 2 of the old ones were salvageable by opening and cleaning the sliding surfaces

the '2' key on my advantage ends up firing twice at times. haven't tried to replace the key for fear of loving up the PCB

longview

heh.
it was actually really easy, the pcb in the cooler master is a one sided PCB without plated through holes, and the holes are oversized
that means you can reliably desolder the pins using something as simple as a solder pump

though overheating will likely kill the board even faster than a nice FR-4 board, so a proper soldering iron is mandatory

you'll need to know if your keyboard uses PCB or plate mount switches, and if there's anything else special about it (like LEDs or built in diodes).

the cooler master quickfire xt is just a standard panel mount with no diodes, it was mostly luck that I had the right ones since the switches were actually ordered for use in a front panel for a radio project.
