Why is carplay so full of jank? e: Adding to this carplay maps wants to take me to the same destination every time it loads. I've never been to where it wants to nav and I don't know where it's getting that destination from.

It will randomly blank the screen out and stop reponding to touch or buttons on the console requiring an unplug or plug in, (using google music) random ui oddities like sticking, and the obvious map bug in my edit. It's all running on my (iPhone SE) and the phone is not lagging at all due to an old batt.

My iPhone just was randomly not being recognized as hooked up to my Car Play capable car. I'd have to shut the car off and try again. I thought it was my new car but then I updated my phone to the 11.3 Beta from what ever the current public release is and I haven't had a single issue. So uh guess Apple is loving their own poo poo up?

In other news I am a big homo who can't stop buying portable Apple crap. I just bought some Beats Studio3 Wireless over the ear headphones with active noise cancelling and they are cool and good and shiny and red. I now own AirPods, Beats X, and Beats Studio3. I had Power Beats3 for about 2 hours until my wife came home and stole them. Which led me to buying AirPods and loving them, then down the line I still wanted to try in ears so I got the Beats X cheap refurbed from BB. Now for some reason I decided I needed wireless headphones(wanted really good wireless sound, figured out I'm not huge on in ears).

It's doing some magic by comparing two photos taken from different perspectives to measure depth in the scene, and blurring portions that it determines to be in the background. On a full size camera all you have to do is make the aperture really big and zoom in. But Apple was all "uh we don't got room for a telephoto so let's do this with code." It's pretty cool.

I just got the 8 plus after years of android. My last iPhone was the 5S, which I hated since it seemed super slow after the release of the 6. I'm hoping that, with the same A11 as the X, that won't happen this time. I love TouchID just as much now as I did on the 5S, but I kind of hate the lack of a real button. Is it using the same vibration motor as the MacBook touchpad that no longer clicks in? It's weirdly satisfying for not being an actual clickable button.

I never liked the non-physical button and always felt the vibrating motor thing would break long before a mechanical button (i know that's probably not why they changed it but I digress)

comper posted:It's actually the opposite Yeah I assume they do it b/c the mechanical button was one of the most likely parts of the old iPhones to break I was just surprised because, while I'm sure I had read at some point that they had gotten rid of an actual button on the iPhone, the iPad Pro I got a month ago has a button so I just sort of assumed the 8 would have the same feature. Not a dealbreaker or anything, was just sort of surprising.

I upgraded from a 5s to an 8 and I’m really liking it. Touch ID has felt less picky, but maybe I don’t have enough time to say definitively. I just noticed the live photo feature- is there a way to save them as gif or video?

Lively on the App Store should do what you want- it automatically selects all the Live Pictures you took and lets you auto export them as GIFs or Movies (MP4s.) Free, but all GIFs get a watermark stamped on them, in-app purchase to remove the watermark. Motion Stills, by Google lets you convert Live Pictures to GIFs, and add 'Motion Text' and emoji that follows objects on screen.. only mentioning it out of completeness.. Free, but you know, Google..
