Evis posted:At least people won’t end up with $30,000 bills. Eh what? This is the roam like home deal. not whatever you're thinking of. It used to be prior to this change, for example, $5/day in the US with a 10 day cap, so once you paid $50 you got the rest of the month for "free". Now it's $6/day with a 15 day cap, so $90/mo before it's "free". Hence my comment about this not being as good of a deal.

Yes but before this 'roam like home' thing ever existed, people would roam internationally, unaware of the costs, and get wildly insane bills. So in that sense, a maximum of $90 is still better than those days. Personally I've gotten so used to the idea of getting a local SIM when traveling that I would actually feel really weird using my home SIM abroad

Oh yeah of course, the prior state I was comparing it to was the previous roam like home pricing, not the old days of uncapped thousand dollar roaming fees. If I'm going somewhere for a few weeks, I'll get a local sim sure, but if I'm going to the US for a weekend or a work trip somewhere for a few days, of course no one will get a local sim for that.

I finally got US roaming for pretty cheap through Telus, which is why I switched. That Roam Like Home poo poo is such a ripoff. I still have two active T-Mobile lines because of that (which is unlimited everything almost everywhere for way less then what I pay for Telus)

Goddammit the golden Public Mobile deal is getting tanked. Was $120 for 3 months, 12gb/unlimited talk/text in Ontario. They're increasing the price to $150/3 months. BUT I can keep a $40/month price point for 4gb data on Koodo, plus a bill credit! How kind of them.

Yup. As of March 12th. Which means that if I want to keep my existing pricepoint on the new Koodo plan I have to chuck 80 bucks away most likely.

So the credit they're giving is really just to offset the sunk cost of the prepaid term. What's the deal with Koodo? Do they suck? Am I going to lose or gain anything by switching, like coverage? They can't have any worse/less customer service than Public.

I've been with Koodo for 2 years on the manitoba plan (on the 10gb Ontario plan since December) and they haven't done anything bad but offer me "deals" through their sketchy tab small/medium/large gaming. I have half a mind of switching to Freedom mobile just so I can browse my horse porn on the subway for 1/3 the price of this service.

E: That RFD thread is full of people claiming to pay ~$30 for the 12GB/90 day plan due to referral and other credits. I wonder if that has something to do with this, not that it would justify how they're handling it. Squatch Ambassador fucked around with this message at 21:47 on Feb 15, 2018 |

From Reddit, via RFD: Here is the fine print from Koodo when I try to use their promo code. Roaming rates apply outside of Canada. Included data does not roll over at the end of each month. Includes international text messages sent and received anywhere in Canada. Availability of service will vary by country and is subject to change without notice. Excludes premium and subscription-based messages. Additional data charges apply depending on picture size when roaming in the U.S. and internationally. Picture messaging is supported by BlackBerry smartphone with a SIM card only if a BlackBerry is added to a Koodo plan or a Koodo data plan is chosen. Picture messaging works only if data is turned on. Unlimited local calling from 5pm to 8am, Monday through Thursday, and 5pm Friday to 8am Monday. For Canada-wide plan, unlimited Canada-wide calling from 5pm to 8am, Monday through Thursday, and 5pm Friday to 8am Monday. Rate plan available for Manitoba and Saskatchewan residents with Manitoba & Saskatchewan area codes only. Subscribers moving to another province will be transferred to an applicable rate plan for that location. Rate plan available for Quebec residents with Quebec area codes only. Subscribers moving to another province will be transferred to an applicable rate plan for that location. Calls must be made and completed within Canada. Applies to calls made between phones on the same account. The requirements to get the $100 credit: Subject to credit approval. While supplies last. Must upgrade on a Tab to redeem this offer. Monthly Tab charge and conditions apply.

Also, if you can, try to avoid getting on a TAB plan and don't get applecare through Koodo. Both are bad value when you add up the costs over the length of the term.
