Also on the subject of not terrible things Fallen Angels is scanlating Jigokuraku, which is a newish series that has earned a lot of critical praise from other mangaka including Horikoshi Kohei.

http://fascans.com/series-en/jigokuraku-en/

Pretty simple base premise: The shogunate discovers a bizarre verdant island where the presumed elixir of life is, but no one they send comes back (in one piece anyway). So they send a big cadre of freakish criminals with high-ranking executioners as their "escorts" to secure it with the promise of freedom to whichever criminal returns with the elixir. poo poo very quickly hits the fan as can be expected.

I won this avatar on a technicality this thick.
And what's to stop the criminals from using the immortality elixir on themselves? I suppose they have an escort, but the criminals could claim the need to test the elixir.

The protagonist is a disgraced ninja from a clan whose master purportedly drank of the elixir- so the MC believes it's probably real. He has little interest in it personally so the MC stealing it isn't really a threat- he genuinely wants the pardon so he can abscond with his wife.

The others however- who knows.

a few characters even acknowledge that even though the island is really dang strange, there's no particular reason to assume that the immortality elixir is there. still, no one has provided a straight answer for what happens if they come back empty handed.

So Fire Punch ended, about as strangely as I expected it to given the way it went.

I dunno if I would call it a happy or sad ending, the last few chapters were a crazy whirlwind.

A shitty post? This calls for a dance of deduction.
I think I may be done with Tokyo Ghoul. About half way through the second volume and this manga is just so...boring.

It's basically a Japanese take on the American vampire genre but they eat people rather than suck blood.

Punkin Spunkin

Jigokuraku is just kinda shrugworthy for me, but then again I think the same of My Hero Academia so  hits a lot of the character designs/notes/fanservice/cliches/blahhblahblaahblaaaaaaah you find in a lot of anime/manga.
meanwhile To You Immortal had a great new chapter where the MC spends time as a crab to get some perspective on humanity. Let's see like, Luffy or Naruto spend time as a sea cucumber or some poo poo.

ditto on finding Tokyo Ghoul boring, the thread convinced me to give it another run through and see if I could get to RE but I'm bogged down around the Killer Twins and not super interested in pushing through
lotta the characters either come off as boring or tryhard and for the most part I barely have any interest in the ghouls let alone the investigators. It was kinda similar with Immortal Hounds back when i could actually tolerate reading it, where I could barely come up with interest for the Old Guy or Young Dude (the one that sleeps with a coworker or w/e) Investigators.
I feel like the Tokyo Ghoul guy and Kubo Tite could get along and do some fashion shows.

Tokyo Ghoul's greatest feat of world-building is making a universe where the MC can't find any fictional stories in existence more compelling than the story he's experiencing in Tokyo Ghoul.

I assume we don't have a thread for it, To You The Immortal is still great. Can't wait until it, The Promised Neverland, and Kimetsu no Yaiba get animes...even though I don't really watch anime. No time or attention span for that poo poo when I can just finish a chapter in like 3 minutes. Pair that with the recent cool Houseki no Kuni adaptation (which I still haven't watched tho...) and the upcoming Golden Kamui one and that's some good poo poo out there.
Anyway I've been enjoying the timeskip and new chapters of Immortal, Fushi's face on finding out Hayase is dead was great. I love how human he's become

I'm looking forward to the Golden Kamui anime. I find the art a little hard to follow but the story seems really good, so the anime will be a nice way to get that.

Yea seriously, people are acting like Eren going to war with a nation that actively calls for the genocide of his entire nation after keeping them in a walled off nightmare ghetto for a hundred years is some kind of edgy morally ambiguous plotline and I really don't get it.

It's far better now than it ever was. Getting to the basement was worth it 100%, and it's only been better since. The directions the series has gone, and the way it's treated its characters, make it head and shoulders above most shonen(is it even shonen anymore? The poo poo it does at times seems like the sort of thing you wouldn't see in a younger person-oriented series). Eren is a shockingly well-written character, and there's a single panel in a recent chapter of his that conveys a loving LOT with just a single facial expression. It's (recent chapter spoiler, obviously) when he hears the declaration above him and commits to what he's going to do. And that's not even getting into the writing for Armin, Reiner, Jean, etc. There's probably one major misstep in the series when (vague spoiler) two characters are on the brink of death, but honestly I'll forgive it especially if it's going where I think it's going.

That said, if you've only seen to the end of the first anime season, either read the manga starting from chapter 30(around the end of the first season but there's differences between them), or watch the second season and then start off on chapter 51.

A disappointing number of people have wrote off Attack on Titan as "fascist apologia" and haven't actually read it. It is absolutely not glamorizing fascism in any way and this becomes increasingly clear as the series goes on.

I think Attack on Titan is fine and ultimately not worth the massive attention it seems to get from both sides, positive and negative. I consider it a decent fairly dark war shounen story that I am into enough that I'll read it to the end but also would not be terribly upset if it suddenly got dropped from CR altogether.

Sort of. It's published in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, which despite the name contains a lot more "adult" content that Jump allows. It's the same magazine that ran Flowers of Evil and the porn parody adaptation of From the New World.
