ERM... Actually I have stellar scores on the surveys, and every year students tell me that my classes are the best ones they’ve ever taken.
No, I specifically want a private server so that I and the one or two other people I fly with can have one to ourselves to fly co-op. Not a fan of pubbie games in general. Flying with the goons was as far as I'm willing to go with that; I have no interest in being shot down over and over by some guy in a late-model Bf-109 with a suspiciously Nazi-sounding handle.

Remember the hopeless biplanes map? Or TB-3 jousting? Man, those were good times.

It’s so bad I can’t even...

There’s a reason that an IFR rating is so incredibly difficult to obtain and these procedures are even more complicated when you’re flying at 200+ knots. I get the leaning part but there was nothing “fun” about watching people make dumb mistakes and then extorting viewers out of money. :colbert:

Sorry, I’m just bitter.

He's been flying offline on his stream for months and finally got up the nerve to go online, so of course he takes a 747 out.

I've tried to help him on a couple occasions with chart-reading and such and he never asks any questions and seems to take on zero of the information so it's tough. Seems like a nice kid. Also so incompetent he has no perception of how incompetent he is.

Does Il-2 BoS have the ability to make private servers yet?

Coop missions on Hyperlobby will always some of my favorite gaming moments. Getting a bunch of drunken Aussies back to Malta ay 2am local by navigating by the stars, doing a BnZ on a 4-ship of Il-2s and laughing my stoned rear end into a hill after getting a fluke gunner kill, TB-3 missions - especially when the pilot got shot on the way home but only after setting the level autopilot, or tracking and killing a contact with a Bf-110 in one of my very rare Full Real coops only discover I'd bounced our fighter cover (hence the 'very rare' bit).

All he’d have to do is spend 1-2 weeks doing the ifr ratings on PE or zla and he’d pull it off. Especially with a plane as automated as that.

It’s not as hard as much as it is that he’s lazy.

Okay, well, looks like it's time to reinstall BoS and dig into making a dedicated server.

Apparently you need a second account and an executable that you can only get by contacting their support line? Why?

Because loving flight sim devs and especially loving Russian flight sim devs, apparently

My lottery fever dream is to do the same but not basing it off any old lovely flight sim, like every other project. Start from scratch. Build something like a modern Strike Fighters, with good systems modeling from a flight standpoint (all the nav equipment works, basic fuel and hydraulic and electrical stuff, etc) but only a close-enough-to-be-plausible modeling of sensors and computers because really who gives a poo poo as long as it acts real enough and logical things happen when you click the buttons. A handful of planes that haven't been done to death a million times -- no more Bf-109s and Spitfires and F-15s. Solid multiplayer, a real dynamic campaign, and a good mission editor. Open file formats and API, too, so anyone can make planes and terrains if they feel like it.

And while I'm dreaming I would also like a solid gold Warthog and a house on the moon.

You'd think the ubiquity of things like UE4 and Unity3d would make it more likely a group of devs would do such a thing, since you don't have to build a custom engine anymore and can focus on the things you mention. But it doesn't seem to have popped up anywhere that I have seen. Something like Janes/SF shouldn't be too hard to pull off for motivated gamedevs but people seem to get sucked down the rabbit hole of hyper-realism or pure systems modeling (no missions). Yet here we are. I lament the same thing for a straightforward X-Wing/TIE Fighter remake.

If I could only win the lottery and quit my day job...

iirc Ace Combat 7 (not quite a sim but still) is being done in UE4

Hell, you could probably also license the Xplane engine off of Laminar, it's already got support for weapons in it.

EDIT: and hell, I'd be more the person running poo poo/providing the money than coding/modeling.

So FSLabs puts a cool thing in their A320 installer that dumps all the passwords out of your Chrome to a text file.

And according to them, this is cool and good because they will only use this information if you pirate the product, to find out who you are.

:monocle:

I don't fly P3D but if I did and I had bought this plane I'd be charging back right about now.

I don't understand why I can't harass people online. Seriously, somebody please explain why I shouldn't be allowed to stalk others on social media!
I don’t play flight sims but I saw this linked in SH/SC and . I was bored so I went on their forums to see how people are reacting and their user base is generally split between

- “if you aren’t pirating then you’re fine”
- “this sucks but good on them for “””fixing””” it so fast!”
- “whatever, I’m not going to bother upgrading because I trust the devs” (seriously)
- “what’s the big deal, afraid they’re gonna get your pornhub password???”

To be fair there’s a couple of people calling for refunds and so on but most of the users don’t seem to care.

There’s even one dude who said he works in software security and doesn’t see this being a big deal because the devs said they only steal your passwords if you’re pirating, they promised.

It's yet another day in the wasteland.

FSLabs is Greek, if I understand correctly?

I'm guessing they'll want to clean it out before May 25 — between loss of sales and 8-digit fines, the former seems more conducive to staying in business.

Downside is that a small company like that could be wrecked, but they might deserve it.

TBF the forums of the developer itself are not a good sample. Those things are always just sycophant city.

The /r/flightsim thread gives you a slightly better sample of how people feel about this.

PMDG on Facebook posted:

On 02MAR18, PMDG informed AVSim of our intent to move our support forum to a company owned site.

PMDG has been a part of AVSim since 1998, when AVSim founder, Tom Allensworth first broached the idea of hosting PMDG’s forum as a way to grow traffic for both of these young, new enterprises. PMDG has retained our loyalty to AVSim through occasional ups-and-downs in the relationship but the time has come for us to move forward and unify our customer support forum more closely with our ability to support customers around the world.

This move is being made to ensure that PMDG and our customers retain the ability to communicate freely, directly and candidly with us and with one another across a wide range of issues affecting the global community of PMDG customers.

We notified AVSim today of our intent to move in order to facilitate a discussion on how to make this transition as smooth and seamless as possible for AVSim users and PMDG customers.

Shortly afterward, the PMDG forum was apparently removed from public access, we presume accidentally.

We have reached out to AVSim and the forum staff to alert them to the issue, and we hope it will be returned to public use while we transition our official operation to a new home.

We will post more information on the official opening of that new forum location just as soon as we have it ready for customer use and we look forward to welcoming you there. There are exciting times ahead!

A few days ago I got annoyed enough at my old CH pro pedals being a bit poo poo and stripped that fucker down and gave it a full cleaning. amazing how much dust and other crap had built up in the base. I even disassembled the potentiometers and gave them a good cleaning. after a few mishaps with putting it all back together it's now working great and they are a poo poo ton more precise and smooth then they've ever been. :toot:

Also I recently got x-plane 11 and gently caress me the atmospheric effects in that are amazing and the UI is actually good. Aanyone got any recommendations for good freeware planes and anything else? I've been out of the xplane loop for a couple of years.
