So this time the thread's gonna be Gallantina and Gooferella? Ain't no-one wakes up looking that fresh with make-up on.
Artwise you've got good separation of shadow and light here, and this could very well just be the photo, but it looks like you could afford to go DARKer in the darkest edge-defining bits, solid like you've got in the pupils to give variation to the soft shading. I know it's a bit difficult to build up, you could try a very soft pencil, though it doesn't photograph well, or a soft af pastel, though that might look too rich AHAHAHA art is suffering.

I went to the museum of modern art and it's not often you get to talk about the amount of horse anus one wants in their art (The answer is none. None horse anus, please.)
Worked, though, I was all inspired to get doing my art because you know those insufferable assholes who go "my 6-yr old could do better art" when they see a Pollock or whatever? It's me, I'm the 6-yr old and I CAN DO BETTER WITNESS ME

Thanks for the tips! Goody and Gina are my working names. I love Goody but I can't figure out a slutty bad "G" lady name better than Gina which is a visual pun that will do if you (or someone!) doesn't come up with a better one.

Maybe spelled Goodie, not sure.

Your two guesses are giving me pause, they are excellent.

Your pic is original as hell and that's hard to do nowadays.

So after like a week slogging through exercises Ruskin made me do and other stuff from those free resources posted earlier, I finally decided to draw something fun and see what I learnt.

I'm pretty drat happy with this. As soon as I learned the difference between mass and line drawing it's like a veil was pulled back and I could see what I needed to do to improve...

So now I'm trying real hard to master line work so I can be more complete!

Never posted in CC before, but I’ve been trying to practice a lot lately and someday I’d like to sell my art or get a job in it (I’ve no formal education in it really tho which sucks) so I’d appreciate critique from you talented people to get better!

My daily drawing today was Hestu. Shaka laka!

As of right now I don’t really have a style of my own, so I was just trying emulate his in game shading and practice my lines. I’m pretty happy with it, but his maracas are bothering me :shobon:

If you want a feel for what it's like drawing for someone else, ask friends, family or (if you're brave) internet strangers what they'd like to see drawn.

..that's the way I found out that I really, really, REALLY don't wanna do tattoo design and also, everyone has terrible taste. But! You're likely to get a variety of new things to try!

I don't care much for most sports, and don't really draw sports stuff, so obviously gotta do something about that:

It's a Finnish Spitz! I know they look like shibas, it's not my fault spitzes are just colour variations of a single theme.

I’ve been painting some birds for my boss to display in a nature themed exhibition as a first project! It’s definitely really tough, drawing for other people makes me a hell of a lot more critical of what I’m showing them. Baby steps, though, I’ve finished a long eared owl for her and working on a grey heron! I’m not expecting to be able to support myself without a hell of a lot of work and some luck really either.

That Finnish spitz is adorable, I love how much energy you’ve got in there!

It's meant to be Rey from Star Wars haha.

And yeah I tried to make a conscious effort to stay away from mass drawing except for when totally necessary. Learning the difference between the two helped me realise that I can't just continue to neglect line work and say "oh its okay cus I'm more painterly style" I need to be at least competant in line work.

I've just been contacted by someone on instagram who wants to comission me to draw a pic of their dalmatian.

But I'm not sure whether to accept because I ain't drawn a dalmatian before in my life. Also I've never been comissioned to do anything before so nervous

eh for commission portraits and stuff like that to save time I usually grid em out—take the picture, crop it how you like and overlay a 9x9 grid, and then on your surface where you're drawing or on the digital canvas put a 9x9 grid (if it's on a traditional medium where you can't just delete the grid layer after, I'd just use a ruler and square and gently put down dots where the grid lines would intersect).
This way you can get a pretty accurate portrait, add a bit of your own flourish, and people will usually be pretty happy. Make sure they'll pay enough to make it worth your time, don't give them the finished product until you're paid, etc. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice man. I've asked them to send me a picture over so I can decide if it's in my abilities.

Regarding how they found me. They were a friend of a friend who had followed me on instagram after adding my Facebook. I'm Afraid I don't know much about using social media to promote.

In other news I have been continuing my quest to improve my line art.

I've been reading a lot about sympathetic and conflicting lines and how they convey emotion. I'm hoping understanding this may help me make more dynamic drawings.

So I took a crack at drawing a contemptuous surgeon.

It feels like learning to draw all over again.

Edit:

I liked the shape of this dudes face so I decided to shade it.

I feel like I lost a little bit of the emotion of the pic despite trying to maintain it as much as possible

Pet portraits are essentially the only thing I do on commission, because they're so much fun to draw! Ask for several pics so you can get a better idea of the whole animal (and to increase the chances that one of them will be usable as reference, pets are hard to photograph and people's favourite pic of their pet can be less than optimal). Talk to them about the pet and find out if they want specific things or if you can add their favourite things in, like a fave activity, chewtoy or their worst enemy The Squirrel or whatever. Although you can play it straight, exaggerating prominent features plays especially well with pet pics, I feel.

Get some free stock photos of dogs and try your hand with them if you're unsure of your abilities, especially if you're still feeling iffy about drawing hair. Doing them will give you a sense of how much work it'll take you to complete a pic, and then you've got a good idea of how much to charge. Do agree on a price though, I once made a watercolour painting as a retirement gift that "everyone is gonna chip in on!!!!" and they sure did, for a whole 3,70€. Of which I got 2,70€ because someone managed to pocket a euro before the money got to me. LESSONS WERE LEARNED.
Prepare for the event that your client will:
a) take a sharp intake of breath and offer you the chance to Promote Your Skills for pocket lint and Good Press OR
b) run for the hills when you quote a price bigger than 5 bux.
If it's a friend and you feel nervous about asking for money, ask for a favour or an item instead. Do they make their own honey or wine or artisanal soap or cakes? Is there an art set you've had your eye on? It's easier to get paid in items.

This guy gives me a huge Gus Fring vibe, not just the facial features, but his whole... "aura", for lack of a better word. Like yes, he's saving your life now, but would not hesitate to gently caress you up with a scalpel if you get out of line.
