My money's on the Liberals running a Robodebt-style cash grab campaign via the ATO at tax time this year.

A lot of white collar people claim expenses relating to working from home; Not always wholly honestly, but from what I understand from people who do it, they typically don't bother with small fish stuff like people claiming mobile phone or internet expenses.

Well, this is the government that spent hundreds and thousands to claw back pocket change from people on disability benefits, so you can bet your rear end they're going to bother now. Especially now they're going to be getting even LESS tax from the corporate world,

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-20/barnaby-joyce-loses-support-of-wa-nationals/9465778

WA Nationals leader Mia Davies says Barnaby Joyce has lost the support of the party in Western Australia because of the "ongoing damage" he is causing the party.

In a statement, Ms Davies urged him to resign as leader, saying said she had contacted Mr Joyce to tell him of the branch's decision.

"Mr Joyce's actions have caused pain for his family but it is the ongoing damage Mr Joyce is causing The Nationals organisation that is of greatest concern to me as WA Leader," the statement said.

"The Nationals brand across regional Western Australia has suffered as a result of Mr Joyce's actions and he has become a distraction at both federal and state level."

Ms Davies said Mr Joyce should stand down as Nationals leader.

"My parliamentary colleagues and I have urged Mr Joyce to consider his position as leader in the best interests of the federal party and state branches," the statement said.

"It is the view of the Parliamentary National Party of Western Australia that Mr Joyce's position as federal leader is no longer tenable.

"I recognise Mr Joyce for his service to the party over many years and acknowledge his work dedicated to the people of regional Australia."

The WA Nationals are affiliated to the National Party of Australia but have their own separate structure.

Supposedly, this was just posted on Justin Field's (of the NSW Greens) Facebook page, but I can't find it anywhere:

quote:

Dear NSW Greens members,

I am writing to alert you to a significant issue confronting our Party.

A complaint has been received by the NSW Greens that is seeking to have Greens MLC Jeremy Buckingham expelled from the Party. The complaint is related to comments made in a 4 Corners episode that aired in August last year.

Senator Lee Rhiannon and her partner Geoff Ash have provided statements in support of the complaint, and the complaint explicitly calls for Jeremy to be expelled or suspended from the NSW Greens.

The complaint has been escalated by the NSW Convenor to a Conflict Resolution Committee. This is a committee of four members, drawn from a hat, who have the constitutional authority to suspend or expel any member of the Party. Any decisions they reach is final and not subject to review by the SDC or the membership.

Many members will remember the 4 Corners episode. Nine NSW Greens members appeared in the program including four NSW Greens MPs, myself and Lee Rhiannon included.

I am not aware of any other complaints relating to 4 Corners other than this complaint against Jeremy. Despite the episode having aired more than 6 months ago, this complaint has only been lodged in the last few weeks.

None of the complainants raised the issues in the complaint directly with Jeremy, the Party Room or the Parliamentary Liaison Committee before the complaint was lodged and the complainants have from the outset refused mediation.

The general issues covered in the 4 Corners program are not new and have been widely discussed in the party over the past few years. There are political differences within our party no doubt, but these will only be resolved through open dialogue and discussion within the membership, not through an internal complaints process.

We need to have processes in our Party that support people to raise genuine grievances and ensure they are heard fairly and transparently. But a complaint like this, months after the fact, and highly subjective and partisan in nature cannot be seen as genuine.

These sorts of complaints are an example of why factionalism has no place in a grassroots organisation like the Greens. This hyper partisan and divisive approach has been rejected by the broader membership who want to see unity and a commitment to advancing the Greens movement into the next State and Federal elections.

That an MP, selected by the full membership of the Party could be expelled by a small committee based on a partisan complaint is anathema to grassroots democracy. The NSW Greens shouldn't let the manipulation of our processes undermine grassroots democracy.

In the 4 Corners episode last year, I spoke openly about my experiences within the party and how these types of process abuses have been used to stymie genuine grassroots democracy.

This complaint is another example and one that has significant public and legal consequences for the Party.

I make no criticism of the Convenor of the Party or the members of the Conflict Resolution Committee, they have been put in an extraordinarily difficult position by the complainants.

I am raising this matter now directly with members because a complaints committee of four should not have been put in this difficult position. It is up to all of us, the members of the NSW Greens, to take responsibility for dealing with this matter. To do that, we all have to know what is going on.

There are likely to be discussions and proposals relating to this issue over the course of the next couple of SDCs. I encourage you to discuss these issues within your local group and to seek a resolution to come to the SDC committed to protect our grassroots democratic processes from this kind of abuse.

Yours verdantly,

Justin

I mean it wouldn't be a great loss, nor would it be a loss at all but at this point I don't even care anymore, it's just amazing watching GNSW continue to implode year after year.

e: lol grassroots democracy, the NSW right has literally been setting up secret groups (probably why you can't find the statement) and conducting preselections for preselections for years now, anything on "grassroots democracy" from these guys is basically just a factional wedge at this point
