the main stuff hinged on the certainty of a hostile work environment suit in the future

i ain't no kind of expert in labor law, but the decision seemed well-reasoned, and it is definitely well inside the republican mainstream for nlrb decisions in the past.

you kind of need a working theory of trump if you're going to get through the next three years

trump is not some sort of policy antichrist working to undermine everything good and righteous. even trump doesn't think he actually knows anything about policy. what he does think is that he's some sort of masterfully perceptive leader who can cut through the bullshit and drive things forward, dragging everybody else along because deep down they know he's right. in reality he's "not even wrong", he's too way ignorant and lazy to make even marginally well-informed decisions. he literally thinks that if you can't make your point in small words in a couple of minutes, you're either bad at your job or trying to pull something. and you can't have an argument in front of him: he won't be able to follow along, so he'll hate you both for making him feel stupid. so for the most part he's just making gut-check decisions based on how someone he trusts presents the issue to him. and he trusts a lot of people; basically he trusts anyone who shows loyalty to him and doesn't make him look bad on tv. that's why his administration fights like a medici court: if you want your opinion to count, you must have had that last conversation with him, because anybody else who gets a word in can instantly win him over to something completely different. so the only thing that matters is access, and the only real way to win that game is to embarrass the other courtiers in the eyes of the king

anyway, the application of that theory here is that there are issues that everybody wants to talk to trump about and then there are issues that almost nobody wants to talk to trump about. on really big topics like health care he's constantly flipping around because he only really cares about big-picture political headlines like "repeal obamacare" and he doesn't know jack poo poo about any of the actual policy and different people are constantly coming in to hook him on some new idea. on smaller but still prominent topics like education he's got all sorts of ethically-compromised cranks like betsy devos, big early donors who talked his ear off about the same set of issues and who he figures must know what they're talking about. but on really small topics like nlrb policy, he ends up backing some generic republican mainstreamer because it's hardly even on the radar of the extremists, who would much rather spend their face time telling him to dismantle the fed and deport all the brown people

i mean a republican mainstreamer is not a progressive, no. but they’re generally heavily invested in the status quo and are well aware that tearing everything down doesn’t necessarily leave the companies they lobby for better off

It's pretty lol that they removed the button to link to the image, but changed it so that right-clicking on the one in the search results page and doing "open in new tab" now loads the result directly instead of a low res blob like it used to.

It's actually easier to steal the images now. Can't help but feel like they did this it out of spite

Hey Google what temperature should I bake a pizza at

"Place a pizza stone on a lower oven rack. Preheat the oven between 450 and 500 degrees F (250 to 260 degrees C) -- the stone needs to heat up while the oven heats. Large, thick-crusted pizzas might need an oven temperature closer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) so the crust can cook completely before the toppings burn."

(the toppings burn)

Oh no who could have predicted this

it’s sad that corporations have to teach millennials how to behave like human beings. seems like they’re doing the right thing here.

quote:

“White boys (not only white boys, but especially) are taught not just that they’re entitled to a perfect female partner/servant in the way Bancroft describes, but also that they’re entitled to high status because of their maleness and whiteness; that being white and male are precious gifts that no one can ever take away from them,” Chevalier wrote in the post. This line, he was told, violated Google’s harassment and discrimination policy.

people that confuse the real world with reddit/tumblr are going to have a hard time in the corporate world.

The problem is that it's more damore types saying deliberately inflammatory stuff about people who already suffer a lot of discrimination in the workplace and then tattling when their victims have a predictably angry response.

If people were saying that stuff out of the blue in an unrelated meeting, sure, but people with an agenda are deliberately harassing them into it.

If there weren't boards these exact same discussions would happen when a poo poo head has someone cornered in an elevator. At least this way the minorities aren't in physical danger.
