The 2-year mark is just around the corner for everyone on this deal right? That's $2/month loyalty rewards plus the $1 we already have, so it's like $47 instead of $50 which is not as bad???

The delta in the adjusted ARPU for this plan is probably really bad for them. Although this change will push away a bunch of the people without the loyalty discounts making things even worse.

Yeah I'm thinking I hold out and jump on the first deal I see from a non Telus company at this point. Pretty dumb as me and my wife dropped grandfathered wind plans at 35$ to jump over for the extra data...

I wonder if this means Chatr will start cutting down all the plans grandfathered in from Mobilicity (like mine, "unlimited" data actually 6gb then throttled, unlimited Canada-wide talk and text for $40).

Is Freedom any good with whatever LTE band they have nowadays? I mean I'm usually on wifi at home/work anyway but sometimes I need to price check or something while I'm out. Freedom was always awful at even trying to accomplish those simple goals. The latency was the loving worst, it felt like trying to use Netflix on a rogers rocketstick out in the boonies or something. I've been with that MB/Koodo plan for awhile now and I think I'll just hang onto it but I was curious.

So is the general consensus to stay on PM and not jump to Koodo? I only have one PM referral credit but I do roam in the US once or twice a year.

Pretty much, yeah. To get the $100 bill credit for transferring you have to open a tab for a new phone. Unless the $40 Koodoo plan is super appealing to you for some reason I'd stick with PM.

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Discussions/A-letter-from-Dave-on-the-infamous-40-for-4GB-price-change/td-p/220067 Hey Community, I am writing to you today to let you know that we will not be moving forward with a price increase on the infamous “$40 for 4GB” plan ($120 90-day Province-Wide Talk + Text + 12GB Data), contrary to the SMS that customers on that plan received yesterday. After sending out an offer to select customers, we heard your feedback loud and clear: we said no surprises, and we surprised you. While all good things must come to an end at some point – that point is not today. As a brand, we have always been proud of our transparency, and of our commitment to our customers. We are sincerely sorry for any frustration caused and we want you to know that this has been a learning experience for us all. We have been reminded that you, our customers, are vocal and passionate. We’ve seen how much some of you love Public Mobile and we’ve also seen how many of you like the added value that our sister brand, Koodo, has to offer. To that end, we are happy to say that the Koodo offer that our Public customers on the “$40 for 4GB” plan received still remains available for anyone who wishes to take advantage of it. Thank you for your continued support, Dave

The CCTS got 2500 complaints in a day, their yearly volume is 9k There is a fee borne unto the complainant for these, so it was probably cheaper to scrap the plans than eat the $100-200 per.

There is an addition to the membership fees charged to the provider (not the complainant, that was probably just a brain fart) for each complaint against them that is accepted by the CCTS (that is, isn't frivolous or otherwise out of their "jurisdiction" somehow).

Ironically it's easier to port out of Telus/Koodo postpaid than Public Mobile because they have to refund you on the prorated monthly charge, none of this "eat loss of up to three months of prepaid fees". Although in BC, Public Mobile does still have "no PST" going for it.

So y'all switching to this $40/month for 5GB Koodo deal? I can't decide... 5GB seems nice, and I've used all of 12GB in less than 90-days a couple times. Before this PM plan I was on $57/month for 200mins & 6GB, so $40 for unlimited Canada-wide & 5GB is a pretty sweet deal.

Unless they changed the fine print, it wasn't unlimited, it was restricted to specific times of day (8pm - 5am iirc). Also, it's post-pay, so gently caress that; there's no easier way to add bullshit charges than after you're on the hook for them. And you'd be giving up referral (PM me) and loyalty discounts, if you have any. Finally, you can't BYOD, which is horseshit. Mister Facetious fucked around with this message at 04:23 on Mar 1, 2018 |
