the election came down to like 100,000 votes so what "caused" the loss is actually any one of like 8 different things because basically anything that could cause a tiny fluctuation in popular opinion could have blown it one direction or another. clinton ran an abysmally bad campaign that deserves most of the blame, facebook as a vehicle prioritized complete lies and inflammatory poo poo over everything else (both over clinton's stuff and just other things in general), russia had a fun time throwing wrenches in everything, etc. these all were the "cause" and yet none of them were.

now if you take a step back, getting to the point where the election was decided by those 100,000 votes in the first place when it never should have gotten anywhere near as close as that, yes that's 100% clinton running a loving terrible campaign.

i'm saying facebook should treat all advertisers exactly the same if their main defense plan is to throw up their hands and say "we don't try to manipulate the messages you're hearing", which would be a bad plan because they obviously do

So your argument is that it's morally superior to run a campaign built on racism, xenophobia and outright lies than to be smug and out-of-touch?

No one is arguing that telling the people what they want to hear is a better way of getting their votes, but you're the only person who keeps saying "yeah but Clinton"

Do you not understand how a bad campaign that's smug and out of touch turns voters off? This isn't a good campaign that's overrun by trump populism, its a very bad campaign that's even easier to overrun with trump populism.

She could have run a good campaign but decided not to because she litterrally believed the bullshit in her marketing about her being destined to rule.

The myth of facebook causing Clinton's loss is the saddest and most embarrassing thing for the democrats and they need to ditch the narrative fast unless they want to lose again in 2020. its even worse when they start threatening censorship unless facebook does what they want.

hey guys remember biohacking

“I want to take care of my body in best way possible,” Greenfield said during a webinar earlier this month, in which he spoke to listeners while walking on a treadmill. Part of that, he said, means “having fun with using what science has given us to make the body better.”

...

In November, Greenfield visited U.S. Stem Cell, a controversial clinic in Florida, to have his penis injected with his own stem cells. If the name of the clinic seems familiar, that’s because it’s the same Florida clinic that last year unintentionally blinded three patients in a clinical trial of an unproven stem cell therapy.

...

“I wanted to go from good to great, and to get a bigger dick,” he told Gizmodo. “I’m not going to lie, that’s why guys without erectile dysfunction would do this.”

The topics are interesting enough most of the time and the people they interview are usually smart and cool but good lord, the loving sound effects all the loving time

In that episode they were also discussing the hayflick limit, which is how a cell has sort of internal counter that stops it from dividing after some number of divisions. So of course to illustrate this they have a voice in the background chanting "1, 2, 3, 4" because apparently they think their listeners are mouthbreathing cretins who don't understand the concept of "counting"

No, like a hundred times worse. Old radio serials used sound effects for illustration and mood setting. Radiolab uses them like a toddler uses glitter
