it does say the archive/live timing service will be available "near-globally", presumably the expensive pro service with the live streaming will not be available in countries like the UK where Sky just paid 69 billion dollars for F1 TV rights

It's only going to be available in places where a regional broadcaster doesn't own exclusive streaming rights, so mostly countries like the US, where the contracts were just renegotiated. Everyone else will probably get it as their contracts come up for renewal, except for the UK, who I'd wager will get hosed because Sky will offer a poo poo ton of money again.

Even the 1997 season pack I have has terrible quality. That's such a great season and I'd love to revisit it.

Yeah, I'd really like the pro service though because I'd like to watch F1 legally but refuse to pay a single cent to MTV3.

Oh well, if it's anything like the WWE Network, it'll at least be really easy to circumvent the region block.

Feels Villeneuve posted:

That says "nearly two dozen markets, including these countries" though, so I'm not giving up hope yet. If I was a suit at Liberty, I'd try to make a deal that makes the service available in Finland with English commentary, with MTV3 retaining the exclusive rights for coverage in Finnish (and maybe getting a cut of the subscription profits, which kinda contradicts my "gently caress MTV3" stance but whatever) for the remainder of the existing contract so they can still price-gouge the more casual viewers. Many of the hardcore fans have already voted with their wallets, so MTV3 isn't getting their money anyway at this point.

also kind of odd that it says it will be available "early in the 2018 season", wondering why it's not available at the start

also I'm kinda curious as to who's running it, like, if Liberty got the MLB Advanced Media guys to do it like a bunch of US-based streaming services (WatchESPN, WWE Network, HBO Now) did. the MLB Advanced Media guys are hugely experienced with running live streams, they've been doing live baseball streaming since 2003, years before anyone else was really doing it

BAMtech is owned by Disney now, maybe the use of that technology is why they gave ESPN the rights for free.

Music during the race will be awesome. They should make like training montages of each pilot, and when one passes the other, show that with some awesome "Eye of the Tiger"-like tracks. It would be totally awesome, and the training montage for Stroll could actually be just a dozen shots of his father doing eBanking to some sick music.

OK guys, let's add some music to the broadcast to liven things up. Wait, now I can't hear the engines... let's add another mic and lay that track over the music. Nope, now I'm not getting energized by the rad tunes. Maybe just turn up the bass and treble in the music, and normalize the exhaust channel. No, that's even worse, let's try something else.

^ 2018 is going to be great.

I have a strong feeling 8-12 is the baseline, and to get archive and everything is going to be like $35.00 or more a month. Still, cheaper than NBCSports (gently caress comcast and their "sports package")

F1 TV Pro is the live streaming package and is $8-12/month.

F1 TV Access is a cheaper tier that doesn't include live streaming, only live timing, commentary, highlights, and archive video.

What it doesn't say is if F1 TV Pro includes everything in F1 TV Access. I'm assuming it would, because the release makes it sound like F1 TV Access is meant to be aimed at territories where they don't yet control streaming rights. Worst case scenario, you have to buy both, and it's at most $23/month.
